1 | Women Preachers? Yes or No? | Bible general Archive 2 | journey_me | 93524
The other day a lady wrote a question regarding the role of women in church. On tv the news compared the election of an openly-gay bishop to a similar scandal involving the appointment of the first female bishop. I was wondering why would a woamn bishop bring about a threat of separation between the episcopalan and anglican church. Then I cam accross 1 Cor 14:34-35 [34]Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law [35] And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. Saith what law? Is this strictly for those who are under the law? Are women under Grace permitted to speak in church? Can somone explain this to me? Are women allowed to be leaders in church or not? The scriptures clearly say no. Why are women required to be silent and seek knowledge from their husbands? I am not trying to be sexist, I am trying to understand how we can justify having women preachers, bishops, and etc if it is against the scriptures. |

2 | Halloween | Bible general Archive 2 | journey_me | 97987
I tried looking this subject up, but the server is either too slow or not working properly. The topic I need information on is Halloween. What is Halloween? Should Christians actively participate in Halloween? Are there biblical references on the topic of Halloween? Is Halloween santanic or evil? |

4 | What is a bastard? | Bible general Archive 2 | journey_me | 141798

5 | Are our values cultural or biblical? | Bible general Archive 2 | journey_me | 141838
If people look for evil they can find evil. Why are there people attacking Harry Potter and reading evil into its words? Isn't the fantastical and fiction simply that? I know I am sparking a debate, but I need intellectual and biblical analysis of reading fiction that contains elements of idolatry, witchcraft, murder, theft, and any other sin. Why is it okay for us to teach children to believe in Santa Claus? Or better yet why do we consider Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, Cinderella, and The Wizard of Oz, acceptable for Christian children? Are values based on what is culturally acceptable.?

8 | Premarital Sex: Social Ethics or Sin? | Gen 2:23 | journey_me | 146643
I have always been told that premarital sex is a sin. I have also been taught that fornication is a sin as well. I know the bible speaks of sexual imorality and list the various ones, but I never got a sense that they were talking about premarital sex, it seems to me that they were talking about lasciviousness, or multiple sex partners. I know Paul calls for us to abstain from sex and if we choose to engage in sex, that we should marry, but where does it say that premarital sex is wrong (Corinthians 7)? I also know that the bible speaks highly of virginity, is the opposite of virginity whoredom? Is there not an in between. Is sex before marriage something that derived from social ethics, or am I just not looking in the right place for my answer.
9 | Law v Faith. Are Jews Condemened? | Leviticus | journey_me | 146670
BradK help me to create a question. What covenant did God have with Abraham and was that covenant fulfilled through Jesus? Does that mean that those Jews who died before Christ will not be resurrected, or will not enter the kingdom of heaven? Or are those Jews saved because of God's Covenant? Does that mean that those Jews who still practice the law after Christ is condemned?
10 | Homosexual are picked on in the church? | Lev 20:13 | journey_me | 177305
I was researching homosexuality on this website, and everyone seems to point to 1 Cor 6:9, as proof that homosexuality is wrong. The problem that I have is that this verse names every sin, and every human being falls under one of those categories, so why do people ignore the rest of the verse, and pick on homosexuals. Every human being is either an idolater, adulterer, covetous, swindler, immoral, or a fornicator in some way are another. Why are all these people allowed to be Christians, but homosexuals are not. Every human being is a sinner and being a homosexual is no different from being a fornicator, God said sexual immorality is wrong. Why are ministers allowed to hold positions in the church when they are not married, we know they having sex. Why are pregnant women who are not married allowed right and benefits when we know they are fornicators. Can someone please show me or advised me, where the bible singles out homosexuality as the only damning sin. For the record I am not gay, I'm married with 2 children, but I was reading some of the comments and I was outraged. My brother-in-law is gay and his brother won't talk to him because the bible says it's wrong, however he is not married and lost his virginity at 14. |

11 | Homesexuality? Wrong? | Lev 20:18 | journey_me | 92986
Here I go again. Where can I find specifics dealing with homosexuality? Does the bible explicitly say homosexuality is wrong or does it implicitly say so? How can the episcopalian church elect an openly gay person as bishop, especially if he is actively gay? Or is simply not prcticing homosexuality? Is homesexuality not apart of the doctorine they teach? Please help. I am an advocate and I love to debate. Sometimes I get stuk because I can't find certain things. I need some textual evidence for this one. I remember reading something in Romans, but I can't find it. |

12 | Is sex marriage? Premarital Sex: Sin? | Numbers | journey_me | 146659
I have to re-post this question because it was not answered, I thank you for the scriptures you provided, however, you provided scripture that sparked my question in the first place. Sexual Immorality is a braod term. Where in the bible does it make reference to premarital sex as immoral or loss of virginity as immoral? Is sexual immorality something we define according to social ethics or is the bible clear on premarital sex. Please no quick fix answer, I'm looking for more than just the surface. I am trying to pinpoint where the idea of no sex before marriage came from. I also think the answer may be that sex is marriage, and multiple partners is adulterous. I need some scriptires and some biblical philosophy on this point. If you do not feel like going into detail on your stance, please leave question posted for someone else to answer:) Thanks Here is the original question: I have always been told that premarital sex is a sin. I have also been taught that fornication is a sin as well. I know the bible speaks of sexual imorality and list the various ones, but I never got a sense that they were talking about premarital sex, it seems to me that they were talking about lasciviousness, or multiple sex partners. 13 | Pregnant Belly Immoral? | Ps 139:13 | journey_me | 176419
My mother-n-law says that taking pics of your pregnant belly is wrong. She askd me, "What would God say, if he saw my belly." Is there any biblical references to the way a pregnant woman should dress. Or any moral opinion?
14 | Literal or Not? | Matt 19:4 | journey_me | 92876
Is the bible literal in regards to history and creation? Timothy 3:16 depicts the bible as being a source for living or a guide. It doesn't directly or indirectly apply that the bible is literal. With that being said, how do we distibguish metaphors, parables, and symbols? None of these ideas take away from Timothy 3:16. When discusiing creation you are lead to believe that the bible is literal? Where is the proof that the Genesis creation story should be read as such? |

17 | The Gift of Tongues | 1 Corinthians | journey_me | 92887
Can every Christian or any Christian speak tongues? I went to church with a friend and the preacher asked everyone to speak in tongues and the majority of the people broke out in "tongue"? I was taught that the gift of tongues was a spiritual gift and that not all people possess all gifts. |
