1 | Question concerning prayer. | Bible general Archive 1 | chynna | 32391
A question concerning my relationship to God. The Bible says to pray without ceasing. I personally have always felt uncomfortable praying, but yet at the same time,I feel like I have a very close relationship with God. The only way I can describe it is that I have an open heart to God. In my mind and heart I can talk to Him at any time. To pray seems silly when He is right there with me anyway. Is it wrong to feel this way? Sometimes I do formally pray, but it doesn't feel right. It's like having someone in the room with you, but instead of talking to them, you bow your head and pray to them. So, my question is this. Do you think the statement about praying without ceasing was another way to say to never stop praying? Or in other words, never end your prayer or your open connnection with God? Do you think God wants a formal standoffish relationship with us where we treat Him formally? Just curious what other think.
2 | Having problems with my faith. | Bible general Archive 1 | chynna | 34348
I'm having an underlying problem with my faith that I need to find closure with. And it stems from my love of animals and God's view of animals. Most christians I speak with view animals as things God gave us to do with however we please. Some things I read in the Bible make me think God really loves animals and then other things make me think He really could care less. Jesus states that God is aware of every death, even that of a sparrow. That makes me think He is very in tune not only to humans but to all His creations. But how does an animal lover accept God's choice of animal sacrifices in light of the fact He knew they wouldn't accomplish what Jesus did? I understand He favors humans over animals because we are made in His image. I've talked to some Christians who tell me to get over my love of animals and to stop trying to make God fit into my view of Him. Is this what I'm trying to do?
3 | Help. Someone's testamony has me upset | Bible general Archive 1 | chynna | 45259
Help. My faith isn't shaken, but I'm suddenly questioning everything that brought me to God. Someone posted their testamony on another board yesterday. It was amazing and left me in awe. The man said that while driving to work, he was lifted up out of his car by a bright light and found himself in heaven in front of God. He said that God showed him heaven and then gave him the ability for a moment to think like God so he could understand the reasoning behind everything God created. He said that God told him if he believed in His Son, all that would be his. Then he found himself back in the car, stopped in the middle of a freeway. This supposedly is a man that didn't believe and at the urging of some friends was baptised anyway. He thought the whole thing a joke until this happened. The more I got to thinking about this last night, the more I got to doubting the more subtle things in my life that I attribute to God. I started questioning whether I wanted God to be behind the things that happened and therefore just believed it to be so. I couldn't sleep last night it upset me so. I've worried about it all morning. The things I felt sure where God are suddenly in question for me. I don't like it.
4 | A hypothetical question | Bible general Archive 1 | chynna | 47771
We die and find ourselves awaiting judgement. Jesus is there. God is there. Satan is there. Interestingly enough, they are placing judgement on an unbeliever and you are observing. This soul is more than likely going to hell because they didn't accept Christ. Jesus suddenly turns to you and asks what should be done. You have accepted Christ as your savior and feel certain you are destined for heaven. Would you damn the soul to hell or would you find it in yourself to be merciful?
5 | Isaiah Chapter 11 | Bible general Archive 1 | chynna | 62929
Should Isaiah Chapter 11 verses.....5 through 11 be taken literally or are they symbolic? I was reading some literature from the JWS this past weekend and it was discussing this and appeared to take it literally. Are these verses referring to the 1000 year reign of Christ?

7 | Feeling overwhelmed and need direction. | NT general Archive 1 | chynna | 30503
I've accepted Christ as my savior and I've been baptised. My whole life has been changed in such a positive way. I feel like I'm about to burst with inner peace and happiness. Not sure how else to describe it. But sometimes when I think of the enormity of what's really going on with God and us and everything and my part in it all and my acceptance of Him as my Lord, I have to say I'm a little overwhelmed. I don't have a very good understanding of the Bible, although I'm working on that. Does anyone else feel this way? I feel like I should be doing something important now, but I don't know what.
8 | Genesis 4:13 | Genesis | chynna | 32482
Genesis 4:13 Cain said to the Lord, " My punishment is more than I can bear. Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me." This is a clear statement that Cain has knowledge of other people on earth. I don't know how old he was when he killed Able, but it was before Adam and Eve gave birth to Seth. My question still remains, where did these other people come from and why were Adam and Eve the only ones who lived in the garden of Eden? Considering Adam only lived 130 years and during this time he only had three sons, Cain, Able, and Seth. Do you think there were more people created in the garden of Eden? Or do you think other people existed on earth, but they were not created in God's image? Perhaps this could explain fossils of early man? Perhaps Adam and Eve were the first 'man' and 'woman' God created that had a special relationship with God? |

9 | Question about Genesis 6:6 | Genesis | chynna | 32622
In Genesis 6:6 The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. So the Lord said, " I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth - men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air - for I am greived that I have made them." Why was God upset with the animals? What did they do to incur His wrath? |

How many years from Adam and Eve untill Jesus? And how many years from the time of Daniel until Jesus?

12 | God's motives concerning Adam/Eve | Genesis | chynna | 39578
Why did God create man on earth, when he cast satan and his followers here first? And why did God place the tree of good and evil in the garden, knowing that satan would see an opportunity to challenge God through Adam and Eve? Do you think God knew Adam and Eve were eventually going to eat from that tree and that was His plan all along?
13 | A question about Jonah | Gen 1:1 | chynna | 33664
I think the story of Jonah is my favorite in the Bible. I can relate to Jonah more than any other individual in the Bible since God chose to show me a very similiar lesson in my life. In Jonah, God chooses to use animals as agents of His message...from the whale that swallowed Jonah to the worm that ate the tree that shelterd Jonah. God has used an animal in my life, as well, to get a very similiar message across to me concerning God's love. I would like some thoughts about the fact God communicates so clearly with animals. Does this mean that they most likely have soul and spirit too? Or does God just set them in position and they have no knowledge of Him?
14 | Are we the only ones God made? | Gen 1:27 | chynna | 37980
Over ten years ago I saw a UFO. The whole event lasted maybe 5 minutes. I wasn't the only one who saw it. A major in the airforce saw it and it was written up in the paper. I've worked for the military for close to 20 years and I am very familiar with many of our defence systems as well as our capability in terms of aircraft. I feel very sure that what I saw wasn't part of mankind as we know it. How do I take this event and fit it into my belief of God and Christ? It's always bothered me.
15 | Is God he, she or neither? | Gen 2:4 | chynna | 39996
Is God a he,she or neither? The Bible clearly says He. But when God created humans and animals He clearly understood the difference between male and female. Can there be a heavenly Father without a heavenly mother? Why specify He, if there isn't a 'she' to clarify the word 'he' against? Can God be a 'he' if He is spirit? Some people say the word for God in the original language of the Bible is neither male nor female.
16 | why the need for a sacrifice? | Gen 2:17 | chynna | 34162
I've been thinking about Jesus's death and the need for it. And I've been thinking about how in the old testament sacrifices were made as atonement for sins. In this light, I understand why Jesus had to die. But I'm having a slight problem with this. Why do you think God requires a blood sacrifice? How does killing something and offering it up to God really erase sin? My faith is still strong, I'm just trying to understand this a little better. Thanks |

17 | I think I'm hopeless... | Gen 2:17 | chynna | 34186
I understand the penalty for sin is death. But I just don't understand why God would accept an animal sacrifice in the first place. If a person sins, attempts to transfer their sin to an animal, and kills the animal as an offering to God as a substitute for the person..well, it just doesn't cut it for me. To me, the person still sinned and they really didn't pay the price for their sin. The poor animal did. I guess it really bothers me how God would accept the innocent slaughter of animals when they didn't do anything wrong. But then this thought process even raises more concerns with the thought of His son dying for all of us. I guess I'm having a problem with just the thought of transferring sin from one individual to another. I've never understood why He accepted animal sacrifices. Obviously God changed his mind about this too, which is a worrisome thought. Does this mean God may have some weakness. What do you think?
18 | A question about God's creation plans | Gen 2:18 | chynna | 43252
God created animals prior to creating man. He created male and female of every species. When He created man He only created Adam at first. It's unclear from the bible whether Adam was created a child or an adult and how long he remained alone. Why didn't God automatically create a female human?
19 | Was the serpent satan or just a serpent? | Gen 3:1 | chynna | 44651
Genesis 1:29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground - everything that has the breath of life in it - I give every green plant for food. Genesis 2:15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." (I can't help but notice God only commanded man not eat from this tree. The animals don't seem to be a part of this restriction. They were allowed to eat from every seed bearing plant and tree.) Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" 2 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die." (It appears the serpent has already tasted the fruit and knows and its eyes have been opened) Genesis 3:14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, "Cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals!" Is the serpent really satan? This is why God punished not only man, but animals too. But where is satan in this picture? |

20 | Confusion concerning Jesus's death | Lev 17:11 | chynna | 31738
Would someone please explain, in simple terms, why Jesus had to die in order for people to be saved? And if He took on all our sins, then why isn't He spending eternity in hell? Was it a real sacrifice, His death, if He takes on all the sins and goes to Heaven? I am very confused. Help.
