3 | Binding and Losing? | Matt 16:19 | Tamara Brewington | 205974
Dear forum members, What is Jesus talking about here? Is this talking about verse 18 where it says the gates of Hades will not prevail over the church? I am thinking here about Revelation 1:18 where Jesus has the keys of death and of Hades, meaning He has triumphed over them and how in Mathew 16:19 Jesus says I give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. It seems like He has two sets of keys, all the power over Hades and death and over heaven. So is Jesus saying we have the power over things on earth, those things in the power of the devil to bind them and lose them because Jesus triumphed? Or is this talking about the same principle of Mathew 18:15-20 to bind (not to forgive a sin) or to lose (to forgive a sin)? I am looking at the text here and trying to see here what the scope of the actions of the church is here in "binding and losing", and trying to see if that is what is meant in Mathew 16:19. 4 | Confirmation of Humbledygraces Warning | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 205957
Heads up you guys, Glen La Bella tagged me with a new twist; he asked if I was open minded... When I repplied that I was now identifying him as a well known JW and would he like to study with me, he sent me another email begging off dealing with my offer to study his Bible with him in the spirit of exegesis to see exactly what the Greek and Hebrew are saying about his texts, saying that he read my posts and notes and begged off that venture all of a sudden. Everyone keep giving a reason for the hope that is in you. Sola Scriptura... God's Day, Tamara |

5 | One Body In Christ. | 1 Cor 12:17 | Tamara Brewington | 205858
If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing where would the sense of smell be? But now God has placed the members each one of them, in the body, just as He desired. If they were all one member, where would the body be? But now there are many members, but one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; or the again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you." On the contrary, it is much truer that the members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary; and those members of the body we deem less honorable, on these we bestow more abundandt honor, and our less presentable members become much more presentable, whereas our more presentable members have no need of it. But God has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that member which lacked, so that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

7 | Criteria for Permanence of Doctrine? | 2 Tim 2:15 | Tamara Brewington | 205845
Dear Forum Members, What do you think should be the criteria for permanence of a doctrine, what things make a doctrine permanent? Please pick a doctrine to do this with, please dont' just give an opinion about doctrine in general. God's Day To You, Tamara |
||||||
8 | What is the Permanent Element? | 1 Tim 3:16 | Tamara Brewington | 205844
Dear Forum Members, What do you think the permanent element of Christianity should be, the element that prevails? 1.The church as an institution constitutes the permanent element in Christianity by virtue of its traditions. 2.The emotional experience of the Christian believer constitutes the permanent element in Christianity because the world is moving forward and everything in the Bible that was expressed as a belief in things to come does not have to come true in order to embrace the emotional experience of Christianity. 3.The moral lives of the Christian believers constitutes the permanent element in Christianity by the demonstration of adherence to the teachings of Jesus. 4.The doctrine found in the scriptures constitutes the permanent element in Christianity. 9 | Evangelism in Prisons? | Matt 28:19 | Tamara Brewington | 205832
Dear Forum members, Evangelism is a Biblical concept. When I tried to post before the book of the Bible I choose for a reference did not remain when I finaly hit "submit". The Forum says this; Postings must be Biblically based and not opposing the Bible's sole authority (sola Scriptura), Christianity, or the deity of Jesus Christ. Whenever possible, postings should include supporting Bible references. Please note that it says Biblicaly based not scripturaly based please... And to include a scripture where possible. Does any body know what Christians are allowed to present in prisons? Are they allowed to preach the gospel, is there a restriction not to proselityze openly or something? Evangelizing is Biblical... I have a reason for this, but it is not whether or not I plan to do prison evangelism. God Bless Tam |

11 | Creeds and Confessions Needful? | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 205810
Dear Forum members, Could someone elaborate for me why some Baptist churches are not inculcated with the various protestant confessions of faith and some are? What would you say about a Baptist church that is not inculcated with these confessions, but goes by Sola Scriptura alone? Not saying the two must be or are mutually exclusive to one another, I can see that they must have been built in some sense on the concept of Sola Scriptura... I am truly ingnorant of these things and really never, ever heard of Sola Scriptura before coming in here, it is not taught at my school (perhaps it is in the church history classess I don't know) and I never heard of it before in my small Baptist church or in the much, much bigger one where my school is affiliated at when I went to hear preaching there. The only thing I remember my pastor saying about anything in this area is that there are a whole lot of things out there that are considered valid creeds and practices, and I as your pastor am not saying they are not valid, but the only thing I will be teaching you here is a literal interpretation of the Bible because the scriptures are the final authority you don't need to learn what I say or what men say, my job is to teach you the Bible and only the Bible. God Bless everyone, Tamara |

12 | Please HelpUnderstanding Sola Scriptura? | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 205815
Dear Forum members, I understand this much about Sola Scriptura - that the Bible is the sole authoritative word of God. Please correct me if this is a wrong understanding and what if any tenets are listed in this understanding? I did go to Cristian.org and read the article but wonder if there is such a list which I am describing of tenets. Thanks everyone for putting up with my ignorance about some things some times...Tam |

14 | Praise Dance Wrong Worship? | Ps 149:3 | Tamara Brewington | 205650
Dear Forum members, What do you think of praise dancing? Have you ever seen it done? I have seen churches of all denominations and colors doing this? Some churches see this as shaking your bottom in public and think all dancing is the work of the devil. I personally like it and it has been done in my church by the youth from time to time although I strongly objected to the choice of music and wonder despite the lyrics how such music could be said to even be praise music based on the music, if you could call it that. We know David danced right out of his clothes in a praise mode and his wife couldn't stand it and felt it was unholy. What do you all think? God's Day To You, Tamara |

15 | Evidenc of Signs in 2008 Valid? | Mark 16:17 | Tamara Brewington | 205649
Dear Forum members, I already know what I think of the Pentecostal belief that speaking in tongues is evidence of the Holy Spirit having entered one and I know all the scriptures to refute that understanding of scriptures. I wonder though how should we understand Mathew verse 17 and 18 - are these signs just to be applied to the first century - the tongues, the casting out of demons, the not being affected by poisons or deadly snakes? Or do you think it is possible that these things could still apply now? Please don't answer with stuff about snake handlers or refutations of crackpot practices in phony bony churches - I am well aware of what types of charlatans are out there, I am well grounded and not in any danger of falling prey to false doctrine. Please try to craft your answer around some scriptures if you can.. God's Day To You, Tamara |

16 | Christians Demon Plagued? | Mark 16:17 | Tamara Brewington | 205647
Dear Forum members, I have a friend from school who is a minister in a Pentecostal church, I am Baptist always have been always will be. I went to a function at his church tonight to fellow ship with him and his lovely wife. I heard a number of things I have heard before that I wonder if some of you know more about than I do... Here is the deal; the visiting preacher was talking about a situation where a member of his church who had confessed the Lord Jesus and asked for forgiveness of sins was plagued by demons. Here is what she was doing that was the outward sign, she stripped naked to the nothingness of nakedness several times during services while he was preaching very quickly before the ushers could stop her. This man is an arch-bishop of a Pentecostal church, he had interviewed this woman to make sure she was saved as best he could and had baptized her immediately after her profession of faith and repentance the same day she confessed the Lord Jesus. The deacons in his church were highly upset saying how very fast she took all those clothes off, remarking that she never had any undergarments to hinder her haste and saying as how she seemed to be a demon plagued Christian and some said a demon possesed Christian. I am not so stupid or so new as to think that a Christian could actually have the spirit of the devil and the Holy Ghost at the same time. He never said she was possesed, he said she was demon plagued and that the demon had to be cast out of her in the name of Jesus before her sanity returned to her. We know from the Bible that folks who are saved can actually do things by the spirit of Satan, like Peter did and still be saved, which means the spirit of Satan is operating through them, working through them, even though they are sealed by the Holy Ghost. What do you all think of this? Do you see anything here according to what I have said that you could illuminate by the scriptures on? God's Blessings Tam |

17 | About the Forum and Bible Study. | 2 Tim 2:15 | Tamara Brewington | 205333
Dear Forum Members, Just a little reveiw of some of our gracious host's guidelines in brotherly love to make this a place to be respected and used for the edification of the whole body of Christ. Quote from, About the Forum - It's like a free study Bible with an unlimited margin, that contained helpful verse notes, and was continually expanding. A resource where you can access and/or contribute to a dynamic repository of verse notes. It's not a discussion group or topical survey, but an ever growing "expository repository" that gives the layman and scholar an opportunity to share truth and contribute wisdom. Postings must be Biblically based and not opposing the Bible's sole authority (sola Scriptura), Christianity, or the deity of Jesus Christ. Let's all respect using the whole counsel of scripture in order to measure what constitutes the interepretation of a passage. Quote, How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth, by Gordon D. Fee, Douglas Stuart, pg.23 par.3; Exegesis is the careful, systematic study of the Scripture to disover the original, intended meaning. Quote, continued, pg.24, par.1; But one does not have to be an expert to do good exegesis. Quote, continuation, pg. 26, par. 2,3; There are two basic kinds of questions one should ask of every biblical passage: those that relate to the context and those that relate to content. Quote, continuation pg.27, par.2,5; What is the author saying, and why does he or she say it right here? Having made that point, what is he or she saying next, and why? Quote, continuation, pg.29, par.5; The reason for not beginning in the here and now is that the only proper control for hermeneutics is to be found in the original intent of the biblical text. Quote, continuation, pg.74, par.3; You will recall from chapter 1 that we set out as a basic rule the premise that a text cannot mean what it never could have meant to its author of his or her readers. Please remember we are doing Bible study in order build an expository repository of truth and wisdom. God's Day To You. |

18 | Jesus Powers Diminished As A Human? | John 1:14 | Tamara Brewington | 205327
Dear Forum Members, Here is a question for your consideration; Did Jesus diminish His powers as God in order to become fully human, His omnipresence, omnipotence, or omniscience, and therefore, was it the Holy Spirit who was working through His humanity? Or did Jesus merely decide to put His full use of powers aside, in order to become fully human, retaining all His full powers of God and in addition to that receive an anointing of the Holy Spirit in order to fulfill righteousness? See these passages before attempting an answer please - Mathew 3:15, John 1:14, Colossians 1:17, Mathew 24:36, Luke 8:45. Please endeavor to divide scripture to arrive at your answer, as specualtion is fruitless, I say this in love and respect for others and ask the same in return. By His Infinite Grace, Tamara |

19 | Love One Another And Be Bereans. | Acts 17:10 | Tamara Brewington | 205290
Dear Forum Members, Acts 17:10-12 The brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessolonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. Therefore many of them believed, along with a number of prominent Greek women and men. I encourage you my brethren to continue to be Bereans and search the scriptures whether what you have heard be so. And encourage one another as the day grows long, for the evil one prowleth around seeking to destroy even the elect if it were possible. Love one another even as yourselves having this in mind, not to think of one's self more highly than you ought less you fall and disgrace the name of Christ. And receive the brethren with grace and eagerness knowing you were bought with a price in love accepting one another for the edification of the body. Each one has received a gift, having been sealed into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit, receive one another knowing that the hand needs the foot and that none can say I have no need of you. May the grace of God be with every one here and may we learn what is the truth together as one, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen, Tamara |

20 | Mistaken View Or False Doctrine? | Eph 1:13 | Tamara Brewington | 205281
Dear Forum Members, I have been pondering something lately, please forgive me if I seem to be bringing up something old and please bear with me. I myself have posted several things about false doctrine in here, perhaps even about one or more of these beliefs below, but the good testimonies of some people are leaving me in doubt as to whether they are just mistaken about the process. Do you think that these constitue false doctrine and what scriptures would you give to support that? I know of a few things to support what I believe already, but I am thinking about those scriptures which might shed some light on what the apostles considered to be false doctrine? I have been pondering whether or not certain teachings about Jesus plus within the process of salvation are merely mistaken views about the process or whether they are to be considered false doctrines. I have friends and family members who believe in these Jesus plus concepts about the process of salvation and some of them have been Christians for a very long time and seem to be bearing good fruit. Here are some of the views, I am leaving out the other major 4 Jesus plus beliefs because there is so much about them that is obvious false doctrine that there is no doubt in my mind; Salvation comes by repenting of sins and believing in Jesus, plus it is not completed until baptism, living a sinless life until death and staying in scripture study to keep the Holy Spirit working inside. Salvation comes by repenting of sins and believing in Jesus, plus it is not completed until baptism. Salvation comes by repenting of sins and believing in Jesus, plus tarrying at the altar to get tongues as evidence of having received the Holy Spirit as the sign of salvation. God's Day To You, Tamara |
