1 | How to "win the world" ? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 92795
I have noticed that many churches across America have (to me anyway) no semblence of a house of worship. I'm told that they are intentionally designed this way so that "unchurched" people will not feel threatened when they walk in. We have music that blasts as loud as rock concerts, drums, guitars, lights and sound sytems to rival any concert hall, comfortable seats, ample parking, and even food courts(!) It's all in the packaging, so I'm told . . . our job is to get 'em in the door, make 'em feel welcome and "at home" so that they can "hear the Gospel" and the Holy Spirit will do the rest. Is this meeting the needs of the world or "conforming" to the world? Is this necessary to reach the world with the Gospel? |

2 | The unpardonable sin? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 101895
AO - You wrote. "Any of the situations you mention can be pardoned if the individual stops sinning, repents and from that time forward practises righteousness." This sounds like a works based plan of slavation to me! Is it? I fail to see how ANY of the situations I mentioned fall into the category of the "unpardonable sin". From your standpoint, the continual, unrepentent sins of homosexuality, pronography, and gossip are "unpardonable" but why did you exclude the sin of fornication? What about not giving,or tithing? Does the habitual practice of selfishness also become unpardonable? mommapbs |

3 | Did Jesus have to die? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 113216
Are we ready to answer questions surrounding Mel Gibson's film, "The Passion of the Christ"? Assuming we all agree that each of us had a role in His death and ignoring the worldly controversy over "who kiied Jesus", let's consider these questions: Why did Jesus die? And also, did Jesus HAVE to die? Please support your answers! As this film impacts our society, I trust that we, as believers, will be prepared to give an answer to all who ask about the hope that we have in the Lord. (1 Peter 3:15) |

4 | Competition for our love Rev. 2:4-5 | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 27662
In Revelation 2:4, could Mary, the mother of Jesus be the competition for our love the Lord is referring to? If you will recall, the Apostle John was charged with Mary's care by Jesus as He was dying. 'From that hour the disciple took her into his own household.' John 19:27 Most of us know that John wrote The Revelation of Jesus Christ while he was exiled on Patmos, but many probably don't know that he was exiled from his position as the "bishop" at Ephesus. If John had relocated from Jerusalem to Ephesus, it is safe to assume that Mary, being in his care, accompanyied him also. And,according to historians, the house that John provided for Mary is still standing in Ephesus. In fact, it has become a shrine. In Revelation 2:4 and 5, following His condemnation, 'But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.', Jesus counsels and warns us with these words,'Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place--unless you repent.' Putting this scripture together with historical references it is possible to conclude that perhaps Ephesus was the genesis point of where the love for Jesus was eclipsed by the adoration of His mother,Mary. The Ephesians did not heed the Lord's admonition to return to their first love, in fact, first church they built in Ephesus was not dedicated to the Lord, but to Mary instead! Obviously they did not repent, for true to the Lord's warning, today there is no church in Ephesus! It is a dead city - not a soul lives there! |

6 | Is our dress a reflection of our heart? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 39071
Re : proper dress. Along the same lines - don't you think our dress can be a reflection of our repect for the Lord? I am not intending to be critical or judgemental here, but I am often surprised by the way people dress when they come to worship before the Lord. It seems that we put time and effort into the way we present ourselves to the "world" (ie work, a date, etc)but don't bother to get "fixed up" when we are going to gather to worship the Lord? I know that God does not judge by our outward appearance - but could perhaps our attention or lack of it toward the way we dress be also a reflection of our hearts toward God? Just wondering . . . 7 | Did Mary have to be saved? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 48041

8 | Hebrew Scholar needed! | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 51570
Gen 1:24-25 describes the creation of animals. In Gen 2:18, the Lord states that it is not good for the man to be alone, and verse 19 follows this by saying (so)"Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name." It would appear that there are TWO creative events for animals. My inclination is that the creation of the animals of Gen 1:24-25 is simply restated in verse 19 and not a separate account. Please help with the context here! |

9 | Sensitive topic questions | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 55587
Greetings Searcher et al! Let's continue to explore this sensitive topic. These might be questions we need to consider: "The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does." 1 Cor 7:4 If our bodies belong to our spouses, do we have any "say" over what is done to our bodies by our partner? How can we be "mutually submissive" if oral sex is a "questionable" practice for one partner? Blessings, Mommapbs |

10 | Should I resign from the Forum? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 65675
Greetings Forum members. I have been accused by rabbi mark of: "instruct(ing) other young Christian's to follow a personal opinion as though it is a biblical doctrine." Please review the posting 21647 and read through the thread that has led up to this conclusion by rabbi Mark. I will resign from the Forum if a majority of you deem this to be an accurate assessment of my participation here. Thank you for your input. In Christ, mommpabs |

11 | What do you believe? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 85439
Greetings Matt: you wrote, "There is no immortal soul." Can you please explain what you mean here? What is the "breath of life?" Are you differentiating between soul and spirit? Yes, only God is Spirit, but each person possesses a spirit, capable of relating to the Lord God our Creator. See Rev 20:12-15. According to God's Word, man is an immortal being. Where he spends eternity is up to him. The Apostle Paul expressed what all Christians hope(this is not wishful thinking, but CONFIDENT EXPECTATION) "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." (Please read 2 Cor 5:1-8) Jesus also assured that where He is, there we (Christ followers) will be also. (John 14:1-6) What do you believe will happen to you when your body dies? Sincerely, mommapbs |

12 | Who are these "good " people? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 85489
Goodnewsminister - WHO are these good people? Obviously they are DEAD spiritually to have what you wrote ring true. You wrote: "We can see that the Bible clearly teaches that good people don't go to heaven at death; instead they sleep in the grave awaiting the resurrection of the dead." As I and others have pointed out, God's Word declares that when a believer is absent from the body he is present with the Lord. Jesus said, "Where I am you will be also." (Where is He? He is not sleeping in the grave; the tomb is empty my friend.) CLEARLY, this is NOT GOOD NEWS! Your theology is based upon a sad premise, one to which I do not subscribe. Respectfully, mommapbs |

13 | Questions to consider | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 86785
These are some questions for us all to consider. Please support your answers with Scripture! A participant wrote: "I endeavored to have a teachable spirit and learn with humility and respect. I believed that God would honor that with wisdom and knowledge and some degree of respect from my family and community. Those things never came to me even though the Bible told me so. I had to come to some conclusions about that." When it seems that our prayers are not answered or God does not "do" what we believe He should, what conclusion should we come to? Is God unfaithful? What gives us the right to decide this? Is God's Word untrustworthy or is it our understanding of It? When we "endeavor" to do something - what is the motivation? Are we seeking to know God as He is or how we want to see Him? Participant writes, "One of the things I discovered in my research on alternative ideas about the authority of Scripture is that we tend to talk about the Bible as if it is the final authority." WHO is the final Authority? How do you understand John 1:1? Participant writes: "If the Bible is in an arm wrestling match with the True God of the Universe, who will win? Obviously it's not the Bible." Is this a valid conclusion? What is the "underlying belief about knowledge" that you are questioning? What is the Source of ALL knowledge? Participant writes: "there are many ideas about what happens to us after we die which people in the pews need to believe" Are "ideas" dependable? Why or why not? mommapbs |

14 | What are differences in theologies? | OT general | Mommapbs | 23548
In reading notes and answers on this forum it is evident that authors depend upon their underlying theology to support their position. Since I am not a seminary student, and attend a nondenominational church,I would like to understand the differences or similarities between these theologies (Reformed, Calvin, Arminin, Dispensational, etc) Is there a web site that I might go to for this information? Thanks!
15 | Is Jesus YHWH? | OT general | Mommapbs | 107138
Greetings Tara1: You wrote, "Yes, Jehovah is my banner or refuge, too and He is the One I turn to for guidance comfort, and peace. Jesus’ example enables us to better understand his personal qualities such as love, compassion tolerance and peace." My question is WHO is this Jesus? Is He YHWH? Wondering about your "theology" . . . mommapbs |

16 | Is Jesus God? Who is telling the Truth? | OT general | Mommapbs | 107247
Tara1, you wrote: "Jesus is not Jehovah, never was never will be. He is Jehovah's Son, Second in all the universe. Praise and glory to whom Jesus said to give it, the Father, our Almighty God, God of Jesus, Jehovah. Sorry to disappoint you but truth is truth." Is Jesus God? The Bible says He is (John 1:1) and He Himself claimed to be. John 8:58. Who is telling the Truth? When did Jesus become "second in all the universe?" PS: On the Eve of Emmanuel's entrance into time, your words are a poorly crafted attempt to rob us of the joy we have in celebrating the anniversary of His first coming in flesh to dwell with us. |

17 | Compare the annointings of Jesus? | NT general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 25698
The instance of Jesus being annointed as recorded in Matthew 6: 6-13, John 12:1-8, and Mark 14:2-9 was just prior to His crucifixion. It is different from the anointing as described in Luke 7:36-50. John 11:2 indicates that Mary, the sister of Lazarus did the annointing. The account in Luke places Jesus in the home of Simon (the pharisee) and the annointing was done by a woman with a sinful past - was this a polite term for prostitution? Could this have been Mary Magdalene? It is interesting to note that Mary, the sister of Lazarus, followed the example of a prostitute!Comments on this welcomed! |

18 | Right vs Righteous | NT general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 51458
It seems that in some of our discussions on the Forum we are more interested in being "right" than "righteous! Are we, as men and women, in our efforts to be "right," putting words in God's mouth? Comments? |

20 | Alone and loneliness? | Gen 2:18 | Mommapbs | 48961
Greetings Lionstrong, thank you for the meditation. I appreciate your thinking yet it prompts me to ponder loneliness. God indeed recognized our need for completion, yet how much harder it has become in this fallen world! How do we respond to those who have been called to a "singular life?" How do we respond to those who live in lonely marriages? |
