9 | Was the two drachma tax Jewish or Roman? | Matt 17:24 | Michael Draves | 164709 | ||
Was the two drachma tax Jewish or Roman? It sounds like Jesus and Peter are implied to be decendants of David if it is a Jewish tax they shouldn't be expected to pay. Matt 17:24 When they came to Capernaum, those who collected the two-drachma tax came to Peter and said, "Does your teacher not pay the two-drachma tax?" Matt 17:25 He *said, "Yes." And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect customs or poll-tax, from their sons or from strangers?" Matt 17:26 When Peter said, "From strangers," Jesus said to him, "Then the sons are exempt. Matt 17:27 "However, so that we do not offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find a shekel. Take that and give it to them for you and Me." |

Since we are to worship God only and not man but Jesus Christ is both God and a man how do we worship properly? Is bowing and confessing Jesus Christ as Lord the same as worship? Matt 4:10 Then Jesus *said to him, "Go, Satan! For it is written, 'YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'" Dan 7:13 "I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days And was presented before Him. Dan 7:14 "And to Him was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, That all the peoples, nations and men of every language Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away; And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed. Dan 7:15 "As for me, Daniel, my spirit was distressed within me, and the visions in my mind kept alarming me. Phil 2:9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, Phil 2:10 so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, Phil 2:11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Matt 2:2 "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him." Matt 28:9 And behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him. Matt 28:17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. John 9:38 And he said, "Lord, I believe."
