1 | 3 days,3nights in the earth | 1 Sam 30:12 | chach | 187702
my question, explain the Friday crucification and the Sunday resurrection day....the most I can get out of it is 2nights and 1 day....but Jesus told the pharisees when they demanded a sign from Him that none would be given but the sign of Jonah...as Jonah was 3 night and 3 days in the belly of fish so shall the Son of Man....I have been explained from the Jewish traditions(traditions of men I might add) about the different ways they calculated sunrise, sunsets and days...but I think Jesus knew what a day and night was when he made that statement(after all he created night and day) God Bless.

This expression that Jesus used that he would be buried "three days and three nights" could refer to parts of "three days and nights" as is seen in the Scripture of 1 Samuel 30: 12, 13. Under the heading “Day,” The Jewish Encyclopedia says: “In Jewish communal life part of a day is at times reckoned as one day; e.g., the day of the funeral, even when the latter takes place late in the afternoon, is counted as the first of the seven days of mourning; a short time in the morning of the seventh day is counted as the seventh day; circumcision takes place on the eighth day, even though of the first day only a few minutes remained after the birth of the child, these being counted as one day.” Jesus was indeed dead for parts of three days, dying at about 3PM on Friday afternoon, and being raised from the dead sometime on Sunday. Parts of three days. |

Scripture ... Luke 24:21 ... Okay, Victrix then what do you do with "today is the third day since" in Luke 24:21. It was the first day of the week aka Sunday (vs 1). So I see the 1st day since as Saturday the 2nd day since as Friday the 3rd day since as Thursday He died and was buried late on Thursday and arose before dawn on Sunday. Two whole days and nights and part of a day (Thursday) and a night (before Sunday dawn). Remember you are dealing with "three days and three nights" not "three days". Go ask a Jewish Rabbi how long Jonah was in the fish, if he went in 5pm Tuesday. Read my posts 134595 and 146178 post 8230 by Makarios. Searcher |
