Greetings Branden, Here is a bit of commentary on this verse concerning the word "horn": "..My horn is exalted in the LORD. [NASB margin reads: "i.e. strength"] cf. Deut. 33:17; Ps. 75:5,10; 92:10; 112:9; Luke 1:69. To have one's horn lifted up by God is to be delivered from disgrace to a position of honor and strength." (1) "2:1 horn. An image of invincible strength (cf. Dan. 7:21). Hannah was delivered from disgrace to strength and honor." (2) The English Standard Version actually says "..my strength is exalted in the LORD." According to Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, the Hebrew word for 'horn' is qeren or qarnayim [7161]: horn, (pair) of horns; something made of horns: wind instrument, container; horn often symbolizes strength and status, as in "horn of salvation". If we consider 1 Samuel 2:1, the context is similar to the context of Luke 1:69 where Zechariah says in his prophecy "and has raised up a horn of salvation for us..". Therefore, the word 'horn' in 1 Samuel 2:1 is correctly understood as symbolizing strength, rather than referring to an actual musical instrument, affirmed by the ESV translators. I hope that this helps!
