1 | Lots happened in 7 days for Saul and Sam | 1 Sam 10:8 | HanklovesJesus | 145624
Saul is told to wait 7 days for Samuel to come and offer the burnt offerings. This seems like a very short time for all the events that happened in that week, such as: Samuel summoning the people at Mizpah (1 Sam 10:17), the city of Jabesh being rescued by Saul and 330,000 Israelites (1 Sam 11), Saul's being confirmed king in Gilgal (1 Sam 11:14), Samuel's farewell speech (1 Sam 12), the Philistines assembling 3,000 chariots, 6,000 charioteers and numberless soldiers (1 Sam 13) and then finally Samuel's appearance before Saul at Gilgal 7 days later. Does anyone have insight into the timing of these events? Thank you.

HanklovesJesus ::: From another Hank, greeting and welcome. Perhaps to consider what happened in a week in Genesis 1 and 2 and what happened in a week in the Gospel accounts of Jesus' passion will help to put the events of which you ask in a little better perspective. Some of the mighty acts of God may seem to take too long from our viewpoint: His answer to our prayers and the Second Advent of the Christ come to mind as examples. Others He accomplishes in the twinkling of an eye, as it were: consider how swiftly Jesus performed miracles and what happened so quickly at Pentecost in Acts 2 as examples. God's clock is not our clock, of course; He does not run on human time. ..... Well, it's good to have another Hank on board; surely the Forum can manage with two. You and I have at least two things in common: the name "Hank" and our love of Jesus. --Hank

Thanks, Hank :) It just struck me that events such as gathering such large numbers of soldiers together, the city of Jabesh asking for a week to seek help, etc could easily exceed 7 days - unless some/all were happening concurrently, had been building up, etc. And like you say, with the Lord things can happen in a twinkling. Appreciate your taking the time to respond. |
