Dear Necie, Welcome to the forum! Why questions are always the most difficult of all questions to answer. In this case, we'll have to guess as to the motives of the Holy Spirit for the book of Judges. The key verse of this book is: "In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes." (Judges 17:6 ESV) (I also deem that Judges 2:16-19 is a crucial summary.) I'd venture, therefore, that we can deduce three purposes for this Old Testament book: (1) It is a historical book, therefore it is clearly filling in the story of Israel from Joshua to the time of the kings. (2) To show the inability of men to live their lives in accordance with the Law. (3) To show the faithfulness, provision, and leadership of God, even in the face of His people's lack of faithfulness and rejection of His authority.
