I’m fairly familiar with Mr Logsdon and his King James Only agenda. In my studies his name has come up many times in testimony used against the NASB translation. In a sermon Mr Logsdon made some serious accusations against the NASB and of course the King James Only people jumped on it and used it as proof that any translation other than KJV was of Satan. Unfortunately what Mr Logsdon said in the sermon was not totally correct. Lockman foundation was latter to forced to issue a statement on the subject. From my notes this is a statement made by Dr. White then director of Lockman foundationto address the situation. My notes are incomplete as to when and where this quote was made. The Board of Directors of The Lockman Foundation launched the NEW AMERICAN STANDARD BIBLE translation work in the late 1950’s following the completion of the AMPLIFIED NEW TESTAMENT. Dr. S. Franklin Logsdon was acquainted with Dewey Lockman, president of The Lockman Foundation, prior to Mr. Lockman’s death in 1974. Mr. Logsdon was never a member of the Board of Directors, nor was he an employee of The Lockman Foundation. Mr. Logsdon had no authority to hire employees or translators for the Foundation, to set policy, to vote, to hold office, to incur expenses, etc. He cannot be considered “co-founder†of the NASB, nor part of The Lockman Foundation, nor part of the NASB translation team, nor did he write the forward of the NASB. According to our records, he was present at board meetings on two occasions — once to hear a travel report; and once to deliver an “inspirational thought.†Mr. Logsdon last wrote to Mr. Lockman in fall of 1973 that he was moving to Florida. Mr. Lockman replied that he was surprised and saddened by his decision to leave the area. Mr. Lockman passed away in January of 1974, and no further correspondence was exchanged between Frank Logsdon and The Lockman Foundation. He resided in Florida until his passing some years ago. The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8 (NASB) There has been much discussion of this matter and it seemed that after the Dr White’s statement was made much of it has been put to sleep. |

EdB, I can confirm this. The man was NOT involved in the translation of the NASB. Some how in his mind he has embellished his position as well his connection to the NASB. On a side note I did like the ESV for two reasons. "The Holy Bible, English Standard Version (ESV) is adapted from the Revised Standard Version of the Bible, copyright Division of Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA. All rights reserved." First theRSV is a liberal version and in the 1950 time period has huge uissues with conservative denominations and was rather heated for many years. For Me the Nation Councel of Churches in a round about way is supportive of liberal churches which at this time support gender neutral translations. I am conservative in my theology and will not support the ESV in any way whatsoever. John 3:16 justme |
