Much of the Old Testament and New Testament is addressing (either directly or indirectly) the necessity and promise of the His coming. God made a covenant that He would send a saviour into the world. Jesus confirms that covenant. Even the scriptures which directly address this question are many, to many to list. Mat 5:17, Mat 10:34 Luke 2:11, Luke 3:16, Luke 12:49-51 John 1, John 3:14-18, John 12:46-50, John 14:6, I belief that Jesus was sent in order that we might be brought out of confusion by way of Light and Truth and that by believing in that Truth we may be given grace through faith in God's Word (faith being action based on a sustained belief). Questions like this are often more beneficial than the answers received. Thanks, I think your questions are thought provoking. |

Hi, Wash... I think the first reference to the necessity and the promise of His coming was Genesis 3:15. In fact, there is a fancy theology term for that verse: the protoevangelium; which literally means the first formed message of the gospel. Wouldn't it have been wonderful to be on the road to Emmaus to have heard our Lord discuss all the references to His advent (Luke 24:27)? I wonder how many we Christians have missed over these two millennia? Thank you for drawing our attention to this food for thought. In Him, Doc |

I have thought the same thing about Gen 3:15. No doubt we have much to discover. Therefore I am happy that we have access to His Word and also for high speed study tools like this site and other resources. It hasn't been very long ago that access to the scriptures was very rare and little free time in the day to study it anyway. At a time when we (imo) are in the last days, it's a blessing that we just happen to have the quick, powerful, and available tools to seek His Truth and to share it amongst ourselves. Men before us spent months in pursuit of what is takes only a relatively few minutes for us to accomplish. Every day in His Word is a good day! |

Hi, Wash... Fortunately, God has gifted us His Word (Deuteronomy 29:29; Hebrews 1:1-2). It is the "only sufficient, certain, and infallible rule of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience." What a blessing! It is all right there! In Him, Doc |
