Hi, hgh84... That statement is true, but it certainly is not all that we ought and can teach about the practice. There are a number of means of grace that the Lord Jesus Christ ordained for His church. Most orthodox Christians would at least admit to baptism and communion as two of them; historically some have included others (e.g., preaching). These means of grace, arguably, have no efficacy for lost people: to the lost, baptism is just getting wet; communion is just eating a chiclet and drinking some grape juice; preaching is just talk; etc. However, for the redeemed, these things are so much more than just the physical acts.
