Absolutely There are different kinds of gifts but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. (1 Cor. 12:4-5) Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. (1 Pet. 4:10) Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. (Romans 12:4-6a) |

If I remember correctly there are three historic instances of tongues: Among the Jewish Christians (Acts 2:4); among the Samaritans, the first fruit of the gentiles (Acts 10:46); and among the gentiles (Acts 19:6). In each case Apostles were present. Thus Christ's prophecy was fulfilled per Acts 1:7-8. In each of these instances other characteristics of their conversion became evident: there was a powerful evangelism, there were lives utterly changed as they became new creatures, there were special acts for common weil, there were increasing knowledge of through the Apostles teaching, and God was being glorified explicitly in their praise and implicitly in righteousness. If you want to see the additional gifts that were a sign for the primitive church, read through the book the Acts of the Apostles. It is a logical Part 2, so to speak, of Luke's Gospel. In Him, Doc |
