1 | Why is Jesus addressed as Son of David? | NT general | EmmaB | 240528
Hello there, Ive been reading Luke 18:35-43, the story of Christ healing a blind beggar. I noticed that when the crowds told the beggar that "Jesus of Nazareth" was passing through, he chose to address him as "Son of David". I understand from my Bible notes that the Syro-Phoenician woman (in Mark 7 and Matthew 15) also addressed Jesus with the same title. I am therefore left wondering why these 2 characters referred to him as such? When others referred to him as Jesus of Nazareth, Jesus the Prophet, Jesus the Messiah, etc... Why did these people address him as "Son of David"? Thank you |

Hi, Emma... In the case of the Jewish man, it was an expression of faith in Christ, an admission of Him as Messiah. In the case of the Gentile woman, it was in imitation of people around her. Perhaps she thought it would obtain favor from Christ, and that He might not notice she was not Jewish. In Him, Doc |

3 | Why is Jesus addressed as Son of David? | NT general | King T | 240530
Hi Emma... I had asked an almost similar question some time last week, though I asked it differently. A very learned friend of mine led me to this portion of the Scripture; "I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star." Rev 22:16 [KJV]. It worked for me, I hope it works for you too. In short, because He is what they called Him. Much Blessings |
