1 | Who can give communion as per the Bible? | NT general | South Texas Aggie | 236895 | ||
Thx Doc for the quick reply. My situation is rather complicated. I'm a Baptised Methodist, married to a devout Roman Catholic living in a small S. Texas town with only a Catholic Church. We've been married nearly 42 years, raised 3 kids in the Catholic Faith, and I have been going to Mass for most all of those 42 yrs. I have not joined the Church but have studied it closely and one of my biggest Spiritual problems is my not being able to take Communion. I'm not allowed. Well it so happens that I have a Brother who is a retired Methodist Minister, I told you this was complicated, and he has repeatedly told me the same thing you have told me. Nowhere in Scripture does it say who can or cannot give Communion. I'm in the middle of a personal Spiritual walk right now, so I figured it couldn't hurt to put the question out their and see what kind of responses I would get. I think you being Baptist, would have the kind of response you have shared with me. I think most Methodist would agree with you. However, my Brother knowing my situation, has told me that anyone gathered with two or more people can admister the Sacrement of Communion. Furthermore, he says one of the two people can be Jesus Christ, so with Christ present with me, I can administer Communion to myself with Christ. Thus the question I posted was to see what other Christians thought so I can make a Spiritual decision as to whether this is something Christ had addressed in Scripture and my Brother and I had both missed it. Thank you so much for your reply. I intend to follow up on your reading suggestion and see if that gives me some additional perspective. By the way I dont hold it against you for being a tea sip. All of us make mistakes in our lives, and we just have to live with some of them. God Bless You, STA |

Let me butt in and say you are in an interesting position and I'm suprised you have let this situation go on as long as you have. The easiest thing for a Protestant to say is the Catholic Church is wrong and agree with your brother. However I would ask one question have you ever studied the Catholic position to see why you can't take communion with them? |
