1 | Matt 5.29 (for eg) vs grace? | NT general | Susan000 | 233338 | ||
If Jesus came to save us by grace because we can't be good enough, why then did he say things like "better to gouge out your eye if it causes you to lust than be cast into the lake of fire"? (Matt 5.29) This implies that I am expected not to sin, no matter how hard it may be for me. But we all do sin. So why does he say that will get us cast into hell, if he came to save us from hell??? I'm angry and confused. |

Actually you answered you own question. Jesus came to save us by grace, but we must believe in Him. If we believe in someone we listen to what they say. If we really listen then be put into action in our lives what we heard. Jesus is telling us that the two extremes lust and belief in Him can not and do not exist in the same place. The decision of which of these we entertain and make welcome in our life is up to us. What you are looking for is a blank check that will allow you to live as you chose but also provide you admission into eternal life. Can't happen! If you believe in Jesus Christ which you must for eternal life it also means you follow His teachings and obey His commands. |
