1 | How is Fri to Sun 3 days and nights? | NT general | Searcher56 | 219326 | ||
God's day to you, yaesmij, and welcome to the SBF, The Bible dosen't say what day He died. I believe Friday is an error of tradition. The following is a repost of mine. These are the events of His last week on earth. The Jewish day which starts at 6pm, so I indicated the day of the week as we see it. For example, (Th/Fr) is from Thursday 6pm to Friday 6pm for Nisan 8, the their day before the Sabbath (6th day of the week). Nisan 8 (Th/Fr) - Jesus goes from Jericho to Bethany (John 12:1). "Jesus, therefore, six days before the Passover, came to Bethany." Passover is Nisan 14 (Exo 12:6-15) ----------------- Nisan 9 (Fr/Sa) - Sabbath - Five days before the Passover .... (John 12:9) On the next day, "the great multitude therefore of the Jews learned that He was there (in Bethany); and they came, not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead." While it was a Sabbath, people still could travel. ----------------- Nisan 10 (Sa/Su) - Lamb Selection - Four days before the Passover ... (Matt. 21:1-17, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:28-46, John 12:12-18) "On the next day the great multitude who had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took the branches of the palm trees, and went out to meet Him, and began to cry out, "Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel." (John 12:12-13) This "next day" is now known as Palm Sunday. "He left them and went out of the city to Bethany where he spent the night" (Matt 21:17). ----------------- Nisan 11 (Su/Mo) - Fig Tree Cursed - Three days before the Passover ... (Matt 21:18-22, Mark 11:12-18, Luke 19:47). On "the next day. . . ." (Mark 11:12). Also Matthew 21:18. Jesus cursed the barren fig tree and cleansed the Temple. ----------------- Nisan 12 (Mo/Tu) - Olivet Discourse - Two days before the Passover ... (Matt 21:23--25:46, Mark 11:19-13:37, Luke 20:1-21:38) The next day, "as they were passing by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots up." (Mark 11:20) After a day at the Temple, Jesus gave His discourse on the Mount of Olives. Mark 14:1-2 is still the same day. Matthew 26:2-5 is a cross reference, verse 2 says "You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man is to be delivered up for crucifixion." ----------------- Nisan 13 (evening) (Tu) - At Simon's - One day before the Passover ... (Matt 26:1-16, Mark 14:3-11, Luke 22:1-6, John 12:1-7). That evening was the supper where Mary anointed Jesus for burial, and Judas went to the chief priests to betray Jesus. ---- Nisan 13 (daytime) (We) - Preparing for the Passover (Matt 26:17-19, Mark 14:12-16, Luke 22:7-13) The phrase "First Day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread" can begin as early as Nisan 13 when leaven is removed from the homes. ----------------- Nisan 14 (evening) (We) - Last Supper, Arrest and More (Matt 26:20-27:10, Mark 14:17-72, Luke 22:14-71, John 13:1-18:27) "When evening came" (Mark 14:17) The events after Jesus' arrest moved rapidly. He was brought briefly before Annas, and then led before Caiaphas and some elders. ---- Nisan 14 (daytime) (Th) - Preparation Day/ Killing of The Lamb (Matt 27:11-61, Mark 15:1-47, Luke 23:1-56, John 18:28-19:42) Mark 15:1 says "Very early in the morning." John 18:28 says the Jews had not eaten the Passover, which would be that evening, Nisan 15. He was buried before evening. ----------------- Nisan 15 (Th/Fr) - Guard at the Tomb (High Sabbath) (Matt 27:62-66) ... one day since His death (Luke 24:1) Now since the Jews had eaten the Passover, they could go back to Pilate. They knew what He said, so they could have requested this when they were there before. ----------------- Nisan 16 (Fr/Sa) - Weekly Sabbath ... two days since His death (Luke 24:1) ----------------- Nisan 17 (Sa/Su) - First Day of the Week ... three days since His death (Luke 24:1) ---------------- I posted more in post 81912 ... enter 81912 under Quick Search to see why I think He died on Thursday. |

Dear Searcher, I must agree with you on the Friday thing (or Nissan 15) as this would be the first day of the 7 days of Unleavened Bread. This first day (whatever day it falls on each year is a Special Sabbath). Special Sabbaths have a few less restrictions to them (such as being able to prepare the meals, a bit more traveling distance, etc.) but the restrictions such as touching a corpse still applies. If one follows the days, counting backwards, in the book of John (John 12:12-13, you quoted it yourself), we actually find that Yeshua's (Jesus) arrival in Jerusalem was not on a Friday, but on the Sabbath (most likely Fri. evening after sundown, but still to the Jew, on the 7th day, on the Sabbath). Then we have the 4 days that the Lamb was to be brought into the house and examined. (Again, you stated it!) It was a common term to call the Temple the House, and He was indeed examined for 4 days by the Pharisees, Saduccees, scribes and ordinary people for the next 4 days and was found to be without fault, spot or blemish. He was slaughtered on the 4th day of the week, the Saduccean Day of Preparation (this would be Weds. when the earth was covered in darkness). (The Pharisaic Day of Preparation fell on the next day, according to the time the very first meal was eaten in Egypt, which was around midnight on the 15th of Nisan.) This would put our Lamb in the tomb sometime before sunset on Weds. evening to the time just after sundown on Saturday (a time the Jews call Havdalah, a very short period of time where heaven and earth touch, where the holy merges just for an instant with the common as we leave the holy for the mundane of the coming work week[just a tradition, but a very profound tradition]). Within a few short hours, very early on Sunday morning at dawn, there is the wondrous finding of an empty tomb!! So, we have Weds pm to Thurs am equaling 1 night. We have Thurs pm to Fri am equaling 1 night. And we have Fri pm to Sat am equaling 1 night. 3 Nights. We have Thurs am to Thurs pm equaling 1 day. We have Fri am to Fri pm equaling 1 day. We have Sat am to Sat pm equaling 1 day. 3 Days. He was never actually in the tomb on Sunday, He had risen, His empty tomb was discovered on this wonderful day. Dhaniei |

Justme, Amen and amen!! Although it's not an issue to become divisive over (very few are) I do believe that a prophecy that is so clearly one of Messiah, one that is so "black and white" must be reconciled or it will have to bring into question other prophecies that are not so clear and yet are accepted as concerning our Savior. It is not something that I feel compelled to convince anyone on, I've put it out there for everyone's consideration, that's all. If I'm right, I've done what is required, if I'm wrong, please forgive and we both know our Father will straighten me out, lol. Dhaniei |
