Hi. I was wondering; I am of mixed ethnic backgrounds (Black, White, Native American, Spanish...) but mostly Black. My mother is fair-skinned, and my father is dark brown. My younger sister came out light yellowish. I came out tannish brown :[ I have been using bleaching creams and skin lightening pills to become fair-skinned like my mothers side of the family, and separate myself from my fathers side (not literally, just in appearance). This is mostly because I feel that lighter people are treated better and look better (my fair-skinned family members make comments bout my skin) :[ I saw that tattooing was a sin because it defiled the body, so I was wondering if bleaching my skin to look lighter was a sin to? |

Dear bermudianchristian, Welcome to the forum! Your efforts to change your appearance are not really a problem in and of themselves. We all do that to one degree or another in our efforts to present the most "positive" image we can in the world -- a world that bases a lot of its judgment on appearances. Of course, if you are finding fault with your Creator for making you who and what you are, then that is a different problem entirely. God is sovereign, wise, and perfect in His love. Consequently, you aren't a accidental fluke, a mistake of poor planning, or the mischievous prank. You are the opposite of all those things! Also, don't worry about the prohibition to tattoo one's body. That is a matter of making permanent markings, a heathen practice. In Him, Doc PS I'm short, fat, and Jewish. Want to trade? :-) |
