In the book of Acts, Paul brings many Gentiles to know Jesus as our Savior and Lord. My question is where did Gentiles originate? I read from this Forum that unless you were a Jew you were a Gentile. Does that mean Muslims,Hinduism and other religious groups are Gentiles? Thank you for your help. This was a question that was asked in my Sunday School Class. |

Hello Katherine65, As you read on the Forum, everybody not a Jew is a Gentile. So yes, Muslims, Hindus, etc. are Gentiles. Jews were set apart from the rest of mankind when God called Abram from Ur of the Chaldees to make a people for Himself. Steve |

Abraham was an Hebrew, which comes from the word 'eber'meaning 'from across the river'. Abraham's nephew Lot, was also a Hebrew. Abraham then begat Isaac, who naturally was Hebrew also. However, neither of them, nor Lot were Jews. Why? Judah hadn't been born yet. Then Isaac begat Jacob whose name was changed to Israel. Israel(Jacob) had 12 sons who, today, have become nations as numerous as the sands of the sea and the stars of the sky. All 12 sons were Israelites(born of Jacob, who was Israel).Only those of his son Judah were of Judah,i.e."Jews". The other 11 tribes were of Israel, but not of Judah. Not all Hebrew's are Israelites.(Lot and his family for example). Not all Israelites are Jews. Most aren't. 11 of the 12 tribes aren't. Only those of Judah. The 11 tribes are both Israelites and Hebrews, but not Jews.

Hello homerv4, We have a serious problem then. You see, Ezra 4 says that all that went captive into Babylon were Jews. Ezra 4:1 specifically mentions Judah and Benjamin. We know that Levites came back from captivity, so they were considered Jews. Simeon had its borders within Judah, so they must have gone into captivity and would be called Jews. When the kingdom was initially divided, faithful of each tribe went to live in Judah (2 Chron 11:13-17), so they must have gone into captivity so would have been called Jews. So, I suppose the most you can say is that only those living in Judah could be called Jews. I might give you that one. Steve |

Abraham came from Mesopotamia, when God called him to come out from among his kidred in Gen. chap 12 Abraham was a desendant of Shem. Noah had three sons and there are only three basic races of man on the earth. everyone else is a product of climate and geographical location. God chose The Jews through Abraham to reveal himself to his creation, how we should live and worship God. In Acts 17:26 Paul says that all men are of one blood, meaning Adam. of the four basic blood types all four are found in all three races. So your question should have been where did semites come from? NO!, I am not anti semite, after all Jesus was a Jew.

oh contrire mon fraire I responded exactly to what you asked. my point is that Gentiles always were and that semetic peoples were an adendum. You pose your question as if Jews and gentiles are two different species of anamals, which they are not.
