I am writing a study guide for my Church for couples and inviduals in their 30's who are "looking for God". At one point in my guide I know that the question that will come up is "What does God want from us and why? What does he get out of this?" I need some good scriptures that will help me back up the stance that we are God's children and he wants for us what every parent wants. In other words, an answer other than obedience. Thanks!

Hi, VPaine93... Welcome to the forum! God is perfect in every way. He does not need anything from His creation. He did not create because there was anything lacking in Him. Consequently, He can derive absolutely no benefit from us, nor can we cause Him any loss. Instead of leading people to with prepared questions, why not do a Biblical study of the attributes of God? On the other hand, that would require a great deal of advanced preparation. Have you thought of using a catechism? For example, the Heidelberg Catechism or the Westminster Shorter Catechism? They were originally written for children -- and are used in many churches today for children -- but I'm sure they would be a challenge and a benefit to these young people. In Him, Doc |

The Bible clearly states that we were made for one purpose and it is to WORSHIP! The lord has called us to be worshipers. He says in Acts 17:24-25 that he needs of nothing he is not "served with human hands" While obedience is what he longs from us worship is required of his saints to their creator.

Welcome! Just adding my two cents in Try these Mathew 22:37-39 the two great commandments centering around love I John 4:15,16 about the need to confess Jesus and believing in the love of God and that abiding in love is abiding in God and God abides in the believer. The others are right too, we were created to worship God and to give Him glory. God Bless, Tamara |
