1 | When is forgiveness not necessary? | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231182 | ||
In support of Doc's answer, God is very clear on this matter. IF we hope to get forgiveness for our sins, we MUST be just as willing to forgive others. Jesus relayed this kind of sentiment in several places like His Model Prayer... Lk 11:4 And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.” His Parable of the debtor in prison... Matt 18:21 Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. 23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, ‘Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ 27 Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. 28 “But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’ 29 So his fellow servant fell down at his feet[d] and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ 30 And he would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt. 31 So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done. 32 Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. 33 Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’ 34 And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. 35 “So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.” Yes, this was a completely new teaching from that of the Law of Moses, with "eye for an eye and tooth for tooth." We are even expected to forgive our enemies. Yeah, I agree tough to do, especailly in our modern world. So in answer to your question, I'm afraid if you truly want to go to Heaven, it's very clear as to what we all must do. Hope this helps; Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |

Hi Bill, A couple things in your post bother me as they are not consistent with scripture. 1. You said "IF we hope to get forgiveness for our sins, we MUST be just as willing to forgive others." I can only assume you meant this in it's absolute sense pertaining to salvation. We don't get forgiveness (of our sins) because we forgive others. it's not something we merit based on what WE do. Eph. 1:7 clearly states, "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace". Our forgiveness is conditioned by being "in Him" through faith, and it is "according to the riches of His grace", not by what we do or don't do! You are not considering the analogy of faith in presenting your statement. Have you read and studied the book of Romans? 2. I take issue with your implication when you concluded with, "I'm afraid if you truly want to go to Heaven, it's very clear as to what we all must do." What is it we all must do to go to Heaven? Is it to order our behavior and perform some specific work? Or, is as scripture teaches, "that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life" [John 3:15]; or "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent." [John 6:29] Rom. 10:9 unequivocably states, "that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;" (NASB) I hope this is what you meant to say. Hi Bill, I strain to continue any further dialog with you until you are forthcoming about your connection to Inquisitor. Remember him? I know you do. How can you so blatantly ignore this? Bill, part of our conduct as Christians has to do with our relationship to others. Some of it has to do with following the rules as set forth by various organizations, like Lockman. Are you going to tell me that lying is OK with you? Are you going to tell me that re-registering as Bill Richardson when you've posted and been revoked as Inquisitor is acceptable conduct? How so? Bill, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, I implore you to be open and honest about all these things. Stop the lying, deceptive re-registration and ignoring multiple requests from your Forum poeers to come clean. This is what I think you should be dialoging about my friend, AND NOTHING LESS.
