1 | How was Jesus fastened to the cross" | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231055 | ||
In supplement to John's good answer, I thought I would give just a little more information. I just discovered a very good and thorough website on this subject, http://the-crucifixion.org/ In this website, the writers do take the position of nailing the wrists to the cross because it is a fact, nails in the palms of one's hands would just be ripped out with the "waves of pain." That brings me to the main point I wish to emphasize. IF you really want to know ALL of that which our Lord endured, click on the link, "Physician's View" and you'll see a horror story worse than anything on TV. Seven times our Lord said some pretty amazing statements and each time brought a truly inhuman amount of pain and torture. Click on this link and find out why. Even the strongest men in the world crucified in this manner would cry out in pain. Here's a clue: just drawing a breath of air to keep on living meant standing up on those nails in your feet. One CANNOT draw a breath while on the cross in this extended position because the diaphram can't draw in air that way. Yes, excruciating! But our Lord did this for us, you, me and the whole world, "while we were yet sinners." BTW, I understand in the Jewish world at that time in the first century, the wrist really was considered part of the hand so even if the nails were driven into the wrists, the Jews still called it the hand. Hi, Bill... I would be cautious of any website that refuses to provide information about its presuppositions. This always sends up a red flag. In one instance you might discover that the author was a cult member, avoiding identifying himself in order to lure people into discussion for his false teachings. All human interaction has an agenda. As Christians, we are all about exposes the truth, not hiding it. The former is the very nature of our God, the latter is explicitly sinful. In Him, Doc |
