Shalom dgmawright, If we choose to believe that the Law has been "nailed to the cross," that it is no longer in effect then that means that there is no command for sacrifice. Why then would Jesus have to die for us? His death would have been unnecessary to fulfill a non-existant command for sacrifice. If Torah is no longer valid then there is no longer any witness against us. And without the Law, we have no sin as there is no document in place stating that we have transgressed. So, once again, it would be pointless for Jesus to have died for us if we have no sin and haven't broken any law. But because Torah was alive and valid and is still alive and viable and fully operational even today we need Jesus' blood to cleanse us. As for the word "Elohim" most scholars concur that it is used as a majestic plural, kind of like Queen Elizabeth saying something like, "...we think it's time for us to get some rest now, goodnight..." The only time the word would actually mean more than one god is when the passage is clearly speaking of the "gods of Egypt" or the "gods" of any of the pagan nations, but certainly never of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. |
