1 | What is origin of grace before meal? | Bible general Archive 4 | Dhaniei Zewditu | 220085
Doc, Thank you for the further info, but isn't blessing food a somewhat superstitious thing to do? Thank God for His goodness, yes; request blessings on those at table with you, yes; bless the food? for what reason? Why does that which God considers to be food and good for nourishment need to be blessed? I can see in the feeding of the multitudes that Messiah blessed the food, but I'd always seen that as possibly being for a miraculous increase over what would have been normally possible with what was available. That wouldn't be necessary at an ordinary dinner table... Dhaniei |

Jesus also blessed the food in Luke 24:30 between Himself and two disciples--an ordinary dinner. Blessing the food is thanking Him for fulfilling the prayer of Luke 11:3 and the promise of Luke 12:31. It is certainly Biblical, not superstitious. It becomes tradition through the thoughtlessness of man, much like the supper was abused in 1 Corinthians 11:30.
