Doc, thank you for the response, and thank you for pointing out Hebrews 4: to me. What I think I read there indicates that the 'rest' we need is not so much a cessation of labor, but an experience of God's Rest. Also, the accent is no longer on a single specific day of the week (Sabbath) but it is on Today, meaning every day. Therefore every day we need to be resting in God. However, there is also a reference to 'Sabbath-rest'. Does this mean resting on the Sabbath, or does this mean a Sabbath-like rest Today (and every day)? As to your explanation that "Christ finished His work on the first day of the week" I must say I've never heard it phrased like that before but that is certainly one way to look at it. Is there a passage in scripture that you were quoting? 1 Corinthians 16:1,2 is only talking about collecting money on the first day of the week, not relevant to this discussion that I can see. The same holds true for Acts 20:7 which describes Paul breaking bread and later on raising Eutychus from the dead. Revelation 1:10 is about a vision that God gives to John. All three of these verses mention the first day of the week, however there is no apparent significance to the day, and nothing that I can see there to support the assertion in the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith that "...the observation of the last day of the week being abolished" is valid. There seems to be no clear cut answer, which is a shame. There are valid arguments and scripture supporting both views of Sabbath keeping and Sunday Worship. |

The Sabbath Was Gods rest from Creation. Since then God has been trying to redeem man. Finally since the Law didnt work Christs Day of Resurrection is a new Day. Now we rest in His Redemptive work. Sunday we worship in Christs Redemption Day. The Law was a Shadow and Christ fulfills all, There are no more types or shadows we have Christ. There are two ages in the Bible Mosaic age and the Age to come which we are now in. Since Judaisim was ended with the destruction of their place of Sacrifice ie Temple 70 A.D. Then all has been fulfilled. We have a much better rest, We rest in Christs performing all the Law for us, and we can rest everyday in Christ not just one day. Amen. Love in Christ Jesus RC |

RC, I find myself replying to these posts with a tendency to question, if not disagree with the remarks made. This is not meant to be argumentative, please understand. It is the only way I can think of to try to see both sides of the issue. So, with that in mind . . . What makes you say that the Law didn't work? I think a lot of people would disagree. Judaism was ended? I'm sure there are millions of Jews out there that will be most disheartened to hear that! We do rest in Christ, but He "is performing all the Law for us"? I've never heard that one before. Why would He "perform" the Laws if they didn't work? Thanks for your time. |

The Law never saved anybody, They were saved by their Faith. The Law was a driver (choolmaster)but under it no one man had a realationship with God, unless they had Faith. Thats why Christ has come for if by the Law no man would have been saved. Heb 7:19 (KJV) 19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. Heb 10:1 (KJV) 1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. The works of the Law dosent save. We now have a new much better covenant. Judaism was totally ended By God Himself no more sacrifices for sins. Thats why in Math 24 He said they would see the Temple throwen down in their generation, and it was Destroyed in 70 AD. Some may believe that Judaism still exists but it isnt The Religeon of God so what is it. This is not an anti Semetic remark its fact. Just as some call themselves Chrisians 1/3 of 7th Dayers Jehovahs witnesses Mormons etc. Owe Your statement about Christ performing the laws, Where does that come from. It still is not correct either, He stated on the Cross it is finished. Amen Love in Christ Jesus RC |

RC, I completely agree that the Law never saved anyone. It may be that SDAs would also agree. One of their points, however, is that if we do not rest and worship on the Sabbath, then we are breaking a commandment, which in turn is equivalent to breaking all commandments, which in turn condemns us. So while the Law cannot save us, breaking the Law can condemn us. Judaism is the worship of God, but not of the Son. I am certainly no expert on Judaism so I would rather not discuss it. It was just that your original comment about it took me by surprise. The comment about Christ performing the Law was your comment originally. When He said "It is finished" He was not talking about the Law. Again, thanks for your time. |
