1 | Why the NKJV over the NASB ? | Bible general Archive 3 | justme | 189739
I live in the center of Missouri, known as the "Bible belt". The question I have is, the majority of Christian Book stores are stocking mainly NIV and the NKJV. In the book store I use most has said that the NASB does not sell, and that most churches are going to the NKJV. I find that the NKJV is not near the indepth Bible as the NASB. Does the NASB not selling as well as the NKJV, seem to be in this part of the country or is this a nation wide experience. Why do you think this is taking place. Thank you for taking the time to answer this question. Blessings. justme |

Hay there justme, Very good question, one of which I am not at all shy about answering. Tradition, tradition, tradition!!! I have studied Greek for some years now. When I first started studying it I notices that my KJV had many adjectives and prepositions "wrong." I am told, been years, that King James was very fond of the Catholic Priestly system and the Pope's ultimate authority over the people. If you study history King James was anything but a nice guy! I have read that the scholars who translated the KJV were well aware of this issue. Personally I have confirmed that the priesthood of the believer was specifically watered down to appease the King. Frankly I believe this as the prepostions preceeding the priestly issues (and numerous others as well, by my own personal experience) were changed to lesson the Biblical fact of our individual priesthood. The NASB and the AMP were specifically translated to be as accurate to the Greek as possible. Through many many Greek studies I have found very few times were the Lockman Foundation could have done a better job. Of all the Greek scholars I know "they all use the NASB and the AMP. Now, the controversy has really got going as there undoubtably will been numerous responses to my post. Good for you, the NASB and the AMP, although not as popular are the very best translations as far as popularity goes. I have never understood, nor will I ever, why anyone would chose to use a translation that does not give "the exact thought (as much as possible)to the original languages. Greek is not readily translatable into English nor is any other language. The very reason English speakers are so ignorant about many Biblical issues is the language barrier and the enormous depth of the Greek. God bless ya........ InGodITrust |

InGodITrust - Possibly such a large segment of the modern church and its congregants prefer a watered-down paraphrased version of God's word for the same reason they rally around shallow, fluffy, "feel good" theology and the charlatans who promote it. How far the church has fallen from the sound preaching of Charles Haddon Spurgeon and Jonathan Edwards to the 'name-it-and-claim-it' nonsense exemplified by the TV con artists who want to bilk you out of your money by tricking you into sending them "seed faith." What a pity, what a farce! ..... If you want to see a stark contrast -- and I do mean stark -- between the kind of preaching/teaching people were exposed to in Colonial America and in the religious thought of today, compare Jonathan Edwards' "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" with Joel Osteen's powder puff, "Your Best Life Now." --Hank
