Hi Doc, I'm reading your thread [Properly Interpreting the Bible] . so far so good. I like your prayer..... you wrote "Every believer has the obligation to be a student (disciple) of Christ and an instructor of the teachings of Christ (Matthew 28:18-20). Matt 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. v19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, v20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. "It is my prayer, therefore, that we place the proper emphasis on the interpretation of Scripture that God intends us to have." Amen to that. and as you can see I've imbedded the scriptures you've referenced, into what I have quoted from your post. Also I would like to emphasize this section of verse from v18b. "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth." I think this makes my point that when our Lord gives us keys to understand some of the parables, then shouldn't we use those keys to understand the others? Or should we use our own authority for interpretation? God bless. John |

From Post #157835. "4. Check to see if Jesus or other Scriptures interpret the parable for you." "The supreme judge, by which all controversies of religion are to be determined, and all decrees of councils, opinions of ancient writers, doctrines of men, and private spirits, are to be examined, and in whose sentence we are to rest, can be no other but the Holy Scripture delivered by the Spirit, into which Scripture so delivered, our faith is finally resolved. (Matthew 22:29, 31-32; Ephesians 2:20; Acts 28:2)" --LBCF 1689, Chapter 1, paragraph 10 Christ Himself is the Word (John 1:1; Hebrews 1:1). |
