1 | Are your answers authoritative? | Bible general Archive 2 | Makarios | 94932
Greetings Aixen7z4, Before I begin, I will discuss my qualifications for providing an Answer to your Question: I once studied fervently to become a Pastor at Indiana Wesleyan University, where I was schooled in a bit of Greek, Old Testament and New Testament study, including studying methods in Bible study. I have held local church memberships in the following church Denominations: United Methodist, Wesleyan and Conservative Mennonite. My father was himself a Pastor in the United Methodist church for many years, for all of my childhood, and continues to share the love of Christ. I am the author of over 4,900 posts on this StudyBibleForum, and my theology and stances on Biblical issues is very well documented within this Forum's Archives. From post# 1,112 to 4,840, I was the "Most Active User" at this Forum, and, at one time, I had authored more than 11 percent of all posts here. As for more qualification, I have been well spoken of, and even in positive regard, by both members here at the Forum, and by the brethren in Christ who have known me personally over the years. Now, for your question.. :-) I have also wondered whether an "internet forum" is a good place to get Bible questions answered. I have shared your concerns, with having a group of qualified teachers to provide answers, instead of just ANYONE who has internet access. But that is why that there are a few here who do adhere to the Bible, since we are so concerned, as you are, to provide Biblical Answers to Biblical Questions, and to help steer this so called "StudyBibleForum" in a direction that would both give glory to God and serve to fulfill its original design and intention. As for "are your Answers authoritative?", you will need to check Scripture (Acts 17:11) for that. Blessings to you, Makarios |

2 | Does Lockman listen? | Bible general Archive 2 | Aixen7z4 | 107714
This is not really a question to anyone on this forum. It is a question I am asking myself, and maybe it is one that others ask themselves. It is not to suggest the owners of this forum do not listen. It is to let you know that I have written to them, and I am waiting anxiously for a reply. Here is the letter as it was sent. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Thank you for providing the BibleStudyForum. It is clearly a very popular program and it has such tremendous potential. I say "potential" because I am afraid we may be missing a great opportunity here. The possibility is that folks could come to the forum and get clarification for Bible passages. The reality is what they get is confusion: a mixture of truth and error. Moreover, the issues are hardly ever resolved. I believe there is a simple solution to this problem. (And I hope you see it as a problem. You would not publish a Bible with a mixture of truth and error. Yet you provide such a forum.) The solution is to appoint a small group of persons to answer the questions. Other members would be limited to asking questions. You would note that the problem has been discussed on the forum. See this link , for example, or this one. Some of the members think that changes are desirable, but they would be technically difficult to implement and expensive to maintain. I submit that the changes to the program are simple and easy to do. Also, you would not need to pay the panel. I do believe there is such a group already trying to serve, that they would be easy to recognize, and they would be willing to serve gratis. It has been stated that a board of ten people would have eleven answers to each question. I think you know that Bible scholars with different backgrounds come together to give us one translation. I think that the people answering the questions could do the same. They could be charged with the task of finding agreement, and I suggest it would be a great blessing to see their effort and success on the forum itself. Charge them to listen to each other and to come to a conclusion after a reasonable number of posts. I do believe that these small changes would make a big difference. Your forum is already good. I believe you can make it great. Sincerely Nobel Kam Aixen |

Nobel Kam Aixen, My brother Makarios gave you a solid answer. Let me add ... while the Lockman Foundation does not pre-screen Postings, threads are temporarily restricted, like this one. Plus, they ask four questions before anyone posts, including that the view is Biblical. Third, which 10 would be selected? Could someone else ask to be part of the group? Last, people will have different views ... even Makarios and I do. It is up to people to check what we say out, as Makarios said. Some want to have their ears tickled ... others want to expound their view. I believe this forum has the checks in place. Searcher |
