Hi everyone! My name is Harry Fröhlich. I live in a beautiful little town called Bethlehem in the eastern Free State highlands of South Africa. I tried a search on my query but found no answer. I am a Life Assurance broker, and my question concerns advice given to client of mine. Allow me to provide a bit of background. He had (some he still has) the following provisions in his assurance portfolio: A few million Rands worth of Life cover, an Income Protection Plan that will pay out a substantial monthly income upon him not being able to work (either temporarily (there is a seven day waiting period) or permanently) and a substantial policy for retirement. He requested me to cancel the life policy, because he believes that God will look after his widowed wife. I told him that I do not at all believe in his view, and told him that he effectively only trusts God to look after his wife upon his death, but, by not cancelling ALL his assurance (the Disability Income Protection Plan and the Retirement provision), he actually declares that his trust in God when his own welfare is concerned, is not too good. He said that he'd find something in scripture, but has not come back to me yet. I get frustrated because I am convinced that he is wrong about it all, but I am not as liberal in quoting scripture as he is. Does the Bible deal with these issues at all or is it a view expressed in certain writings of the church he belongs to? (I do not know whether I may name the church) Why do I feel that he is putting God to the test? Your answers will be GREATLY appreciated! Kindest possible regards Harry |

Hi Harry...Read Numbers 27 and see if that helps. Number's 27 addresses the process for which the inheritance of a deceased man should be distributed. These verses indicate that a man should leave an inheritance for his family. This inheritance is HIS accumilated wealth. Life insurance was not available back then but men gathered for their children. And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter. Notice the verse does not say IF he has an inheritance..men were expected to have an inheritance. God bless |

Thanks everybody! It would seem as though I have such clear answers to give him. He, however, does seem to be bent on having family or the churc look after her. When asked, he simply smiles and answers that God will provide. I have reached the point where I simply feel that I'll not change his perception. It's like calling a green thing pink. I am convinced that it is green; he that it is pink. I did as he requested and drew up a letter for him to sign as far as the cancellation is concerned. Maybe I should add that it is his belief that Christ will come again before he dies. He is 38 years old. That may account for his need for retirement provision or disability cover, believing he will not die, however, and I confronted him with this. He accepted that being run over by a drunken driver will not be God's will for him but life, yet still persists in his ways. A co-server in his church also said that he should cancel his life assurance. I found out, when I asked him whether this guy has any assurance at all, that the guy had lost all his assurance due to bankruptcy. Do I sound annoyed? Frustrated at the situation is more like it. Thanks again for the response. I fear that the situation is troubling me more than it is troubling him. He is, as mentioned, just toooooo vlever for me when it comes to quoting scripture and his interpretation (with the aid of writings his church uses)thereof. Please pray that Christ my remove this burden from me. Kindest possible regards Yours in Christ Harry |

Harry, I will write this post as if you are a Christian brother, If not, I pray you soon will be. The same Word given to him can also set you free. After presenting scripture and planting seed of the Word, let the Holy Spirit do the work. If you love him pray for him. I suggest you read Colossians Chapter 1..this is an excellent prayer for others.. Two things to remember.. Roman's 14:4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. He belongs to God..God loves him more than you ever could...trust God's love for him to keep him. This will set YOU free. John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. Unless the Holy Spirit reveals the truth which is God's heart and will revealed through scripture one cannot see. Let the Holy Spirit do His job, and you love and pray for your brother. God bless |

I appreciate your response. I am a Christian and saved by the Grace of God, for which I am immeasurably thankful. I appreciate that I judged him, as he was me, for worshipping on Sunday, having taken the sign of the beast by doing that. Is it not incredible that doctrines, views, opinions etc. abound amongst ALL of us who call ourselves Christians? I've been reading through of the stuff on this site and am deeply aware and concerned that, according to views out there, being saved by the Grace of God does not seem to be all that will get one to heaven. How is that possible to preach damnation and the Grace of God in one go? If repentance TRULY comes from the heart, and not me simply "adding" Christ onto my life because it seems to be working for my rich friend, why do people still WORK at being saved? This person said the following: "God does not want quantity, but quality. It is not for me to say God will not save someone by Grace, but that would mean the person has to uphold the Law" (referring to the Ten Commandments) God saving a person repenting on death row does not gel nicely with him, but he grudgingly says that it is not up to him. It would seem that, according to him, once I accept Jesus into my life, I HAVE TO UPHOLD THE LAW to be saved. Strange is it not? But, again, I thank you for admonishing me as far as judging is concerned. I want to so much keep telling him that Grace is sufficient! God bless! Stay in His love! Kindest possible regards Harry |

Dear brother, Thank you for that testimony. I thought you probably were a bother in Christ, but am glad you shared your testimony. My admonishment was one spoken from experience. Often we observe the walk of others and desire to 'correct' them. Testimony: A year ago a dear sister shared with me that she had presented to the Lord in prayer the desire she believed He had placed on her heart for employment. She was so specific and the substance was so specific I doubted. She said she believed God would lead her to this 'perfect'(for her) job. My internal response was doubt, but the Holy Spirit checked me and warned me not to interfere. I said a word of hope and asked what this sister was doing as far as searching for this job. She said she was praying about it. My response (burned into my mind now as a reminder) was, 'Someone is not going to come knocking on your door offering you a job'. We then changed the subject. 2 months later a lady called her. She neither knew this lady or the company she was owner of. This lady told her that she had an opening and that someone had recommended her for the position. This lady had called several people she knew in various churches in the area asking for recomendations, and my sister was recomended. She had no qualifications or previous experience in this field. She was hired on the first interview. God had not only given this sister the job He had placed on her heart, He had sent the job TO HER. God has rminded me several times since then that I should 'mind my own business' when it comes to someone's personal walk. Now the exception to this is someone who would tell me God told them to do something I know is in conflict with the Word. I said all that to say this Harry..The issue of life insurance is for most of us not a lack of faith. But we do not know what God may be teaching this brother. His dependance on life insurance may actually HINDER his faith in what God wants to do in his life. That is why I said to let your concern go through prayer for him and recognizing he belongs to God. God very well may be using him to teach you something. John chapter 14 is a wonderful chapter. In it Jesus reveals the depth of our personal relationship with him. How He wll abide with us and IN US through the Holy Spirit. Sometimes we want to hold onto others like parents who do not want to let the children grow up. But if they are born again Spirit filled believers they have GOD INSIDE...We just have to learn to hear and trust. John 14:16-18 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. "God does not want quantity, but quality. It is not for me to say God will not save someone by Grace, but that would mean the person has to uphold the Law" The beauty of such a diverse group for Bible study is a boundless opportunity to openly discuss scripture and share understanding in hopes that someone, incuding self, will learn and grow. It is surprising to see how diverse the 'Christian' community is in their beliefs though. I was truly amazed when I first came to the forum..As for quality..after we are saved by grace, we are to be maturing to the image of Christ..(Romans 12:1-21 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.)but if God were looking for quality to save...we would all have been miserably lost. God bless |

It is indeed wonderful reading your encouraging words. Having placed all of my concerns, frustrations (because he does not see things the way i expect him to see things and feeling inferior about not being able to carry accross my view by quoting scripture) and judging at Jesus' feet, and having left it there, has indeed freed me. You and the other people are wonderful! Thank you! Harry |
