The Bible is silent on this issue. We are told to go procreate but not to what extent. However nature itself seems to limit the number of children a couple usually have. Outside the Catholic church the decision has been left up to the individual. We are bombarded with threats of world over population and threats of starvation. Children are thought of not as assets but as liabilities, the family and roles each gender plays have been radically changed. Some may view this as goodness but I think many can see harmful effects emerging. Also we do not know the over all effect that birth control will eventually have on this world. For every child not born is the lost potential of that child. Maybe they were the one to solve cancer, world starvation, heart disease etc. Whenever man messes with nature something gets turned upside down. While birth control seems like a good idea the future may prove it to be the worst mistake man ever made. EdB |

You decide, God told us to go procreate multiply and fill the earth. We know God is a better manager than us yet we take it upon ourselves to manage things where we know nothing of the effects. In the past families were large and managed nearly 2000 years. In the last 100 or so years we became more self centered and decided families were to cumbersome and we didn't want tied down with children. While we have more wealth are we better off? Or are we just working to accomplish the things that once were handled by the families for the families. I can't answer for you how many children you should have, but scripture is clear. Psalm 127:3-5 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. [4] Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth. [5] Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate. |
