I'm curious--why are there many names for one body of water in the Bible? I noticed during Bible Study group the other day that on different occasions, one body of water would have different names. I don't have my Bible in front of me, but if anyone knows what I mean and knows the answer I'd appreciate any info. | ||||||

Kind of like Washington D.C. which locals and others variously refer to as Washington, The District or just D.C., its proper name being The City of Washington in the District of Columbia. So you have the Sea of Gallilee, Lake Genesereth and the Sea of Tiberius. Gallilee is the larger area or Province, Tiberias is a Roman City on the shores of the lake and Genesereth is a fertile plain at the NW corner of the lake shore. I do not think there is any theological reason, just the normal function of language where people us a variety of name depending on their point of reference and local custom. |
