Hi Mike, Yes, fasting is for today. As Hank pointed out, you can search the topic on the forum for in-depth study, however, I felt a friendly answer wouldn't hurt. As you may be aware, the book of Acts is one of the best places to go to in the bible to get a picture of the early church to include the performance of individuals and the wider church body. The following passage is an example of those in the "New Testament Church" (which continues to this day) fasting. Acts 14:23 Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and FASTING , committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust. Hi, Jeff... Of course, we should ask if the behavior that we see in Acts is what God intends to be normative. We need to be careful not to make that leap except where the Word clearly instructs us to do so. After all, many of the practices of the early church were explicitly modified in the light of later apostolic teaching. The church in Corinth is a very good case in point. In Him, Doc |
