Scripture ... Rom 8:26; Eph 6:18; Jud 1:20 ... Susan, Read the context of the verses. I see the Holy Spirit speaking (not through us) on our behalf. Therefore I disagree with "Praying in the Holy Ghost (or in the Spirit) is praying in tongues" (post 148198). Searcher |

Searcher - this question has been up for a while . . . Susan has not responded; I agree with your conclusion - the Spirit speaks, not the believer here. I see Eph 6:18 and Jude 1:20 as faith expressions of the reality of Romans 8:26. The Spirit intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. What a comfort that is - to be intimately connected with the Trinity, knowing that our struggles not only go unnoticed, but are brought before the Throne of the King. Now what kind of language does the Spirit use? Groanings, too deep for words - SO might this also be understood as an "unknown tongue"? Who is doing the speaking? As the Spirit intercedes, this "unknown tongue" does indeed edify the individual as we learn to trust in this reality that takes place in our lives. I recognize that most probably your discussion was the believer's use of tongues in uttered speech - yet the inference of Romans 8:26 is that the "tongue" of the Spirit is too deep for words (therefore how is that we should utter any?) Therefore when we pray in the Spirit, might it be a yielding of our burdens and cares to Him, who knows our thoughts and our needs before we do? (Cease striving and KNOW that I am God - Ps 46:10 - comes to mind here.)I only offer this as a suggestion to consider that might diffuse some of the agnst we experience in this sensitive area of our various traditions. mommapbs |

Scripture ... Mar 7:34; Act 7:34; Rom 8:22, 23, 26; 2Co 5:2, 4; Heb 13:17 ... I don't think the groaning as a language Whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together (Rom 8:22) As a mother, you understand this. It is within ourselves (Rom 8:23) It is too deep for words (Rom 8:26) It is a deep sigh (Mar 7:34) It is translated grief (Heb 13:17) I think it is a loonnngggg stretch to say Romans 8:26 (23-26) is related to tongues. |

Ok Searcher it may be a loooooooooonnngg stretch, but as mothers would say to their infants as they reached out, "Stretch and grow!" I hope you don't see all stretching as a bad thing! Sometimes we have to stretch to see if we can't reach something too. mommapbs |
