The Trouble With Those/Us People They do not have a good working knowledge of Scripture. Much tradition and ritual has crept into their worship. For many of them their religion doesn't appear to ever have been internalized. Religion to them is to speak Christian jargon, say the right things, attend services regulary to keep up appearances, and many other such things. I have met many of them whose relgion has made little if any difference in the way they live. Many of them believe their church is the only one that has the truth, that they are the only ones who are going to heaven. They idolize one or more leaders whose every word they blindly accept. Also, on the one hand they believe that if you die with one unconfessed sin on your soul you are bound for hell. On the other hand they believe that if you just say the right words and ask for forgiveness, don't worry about it. As a result they have a casual attitude toward sin in their lives. Am I talking about Catholics? No, I am not! These are merely my observations of many fundamentalists and pentecostals I have personally come to know. Don't tell me otherwise; I've seen it in Protestant churches -- liberal and conservative -- all my life. I myself am a member of a conservative Protestant church. |

I'm glad I clarified and said: "These are merely my observations of the catholics I have personally come to know." Most of them don't like to be in my company, because I refuse their offers of alcohol, and cigars. Others because, I don't have any good dirty jokes to tell them, or because I don't stare at the same clanty scad woman when they say: "hey check this one out will ya". I'm sure not all are like that. Sad to say, all the ones I know are And I agree, that many Protestants of main-line denominations act no better. Especially the ones I have met from the liberal churches. Most from the liberal denominations tell me God is too loving and tolerant to condemn homosexuality. Just reporting what I observe from my neck of the woods |

"Most of them don't like to be in my company..." Interesting these were the types of people Jesus hung out with. Sorry I just couldn't resist it. :-) EdB |

Just to clarify. I didn't say, I don't like being in their company. I said THEY don't like to be in my company. To them I'm boring. I'm not the party animal with the off-colored jokes. 1 Pet. 4:3-4 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: |

New Creature I wonder if the sinners found Jesus boring? Most sinners are looking for what is missing in their lives, they are scared, tired, lonely, hopeless. They have friends’ every time they buy a round or throw a party but when the party is over they go home to their lonely hopeless existences. They have no hope, no one that will listen to them that cares, no one that offers them hope. They go to parties to let it all hang out but in fact it is to cover their misery. Christians on the other hand, should be the most fun people to be around since our fear should be gone, and we should have hope and joy and peace. However it is usually the opposite Christians are usually the most miserable people, never smiling, rarely laughing and often very critical. Too often Christians condemn, look down their nose and all love is deeply hidden beneath their outrage at sin. Notice how sinners flocked to Jesus' side why? Because they saw something in him that was missing in their lives. They saw His joy, His zeal for life, His peace, His assurance, His love. This drew people to him, because He loved them and cared about them. Did it always work? Was Jesus ever rejected or betrayed? Yes He died on the cross because of His love. Most Christians never reach out in love afraid they will be rejected or despised. I’m sorry New Creature I didn’t mean to pick you but you became the perfect straight man. It is not just you but all of us. We fail to truly reflect Jesus to the world and the world doesn’t want us because they see just another one of them and not the hope of Jesus. Look around, look at the faces of fellow Christians as the file into church. We are allowing the world to defeat us or we never truly grasped God’s truth. Instead of being overcomers our chin is dragging on the floor the same as the world’s chin. If we really possessed what we should and lived our lives as victors the world would be seeking us out for the answer. No, a Christian should never be boring to the world, the world should be wondering where the joy, the laughter, the zeal is coming from, what is fueling that fire that burn so brightly before them. The answer JESUS. Again New Creature I apologize for picking on you as we are all guilty of this. We need to let the world see Jesus in us not just being mirrors reflecting back their own state. EdB you said: "Christians on the other hand, should be the most fun people to be around" Maybe thats why people call them FUNdamentalist's I hear that quite often, but I don't see that portrayed in Scripture. Could you please provide me with some Scripture that would support that thought? I believe Christian's should have the peace that passes all understanding ruling and reigning in their hearts They should experience the joy of their salvation They should know the hope of eternal life which God has promised They should be sober They should be sincere without hypocrisy They should be generous They should show concern about the lost They should be salt and light They should love all people And I do. But should we expect the world to love us? Not from what I read in Scripture. |

Trust me brother if a Christian has all the attributes you listed in the previous post alive and working in their life they will be fun and pleasure to be around. I didn't say the world would love us I said they would want us around. EdB |
