1 | Why is NAS better than KJV | Bible general Archive 2 | Handidave | 141597 | ||
I have started a study on why NAS has different Greek words than KJV. I wanted to know why there are differences as found in Matt 1:28, where it talks about Firstborn in KJV and Son in NAS translations. Therew seems to be a hundred more like this. I had a fellow tell me that KJV is the correct translation. Can you briefly tell me why NAS is the correct one. I am presently studying on the beginnings of KJV and the History of Bible translations. I need to get to the bottom of why some say all other translations are inferior to KJV. I will eventually find the answer, but I thought you might help me speed up my answers to this question. Dave |

Some people believe in the reinspired King James version. Others believe it is the best because they grew up with it, or they have been taught that. The accepted doctrine is that only the original language (greek, hebrew, etc.) are inspired. When looking at translations, Most scholars agree that Young's literal translation is the most accurate. It is extremely difficult to read because it maintains the greek and hebrew sentence structure. The next most literal or accurate is the American Standard 1901. It is easier to read. The New American Standard (NASB) used more American sentence patterns. The King James was written in great English and a reasonably accurate translation, for the 1600's. Translations like the New International version use much better English than the NASB, but at a cost to exactness. I am eager to see an English (as opposed to American) version just released. It is supposed to maintain a great balance between readability and accuracy. Focus your discussion on the balance between readability and accuracy. a great resource is http://www.biblegateway.com It gives a huge variety of translations and lets you compare them, verse by verse. Try this site: http://www.ebible.org/ Notice that it uses the Am Std 1901 and updates the readability. The Hebrew version that uses the real Hebrew names looks intriguing. Greentwiga |
