LSmith There are passages in the Bible that can be applied to both support and deny taking any action. Unfortunately some of our modern technology has us confront questions that the Bible simple does not clearly address. The Bible makes a strong case that we must preserve natural life in all cases, by that I mean we must supply basic to a patient (shelter, food and water) and that we must use artificial means (bypasses, ventilators, feeding tubes and etc) to sustain life only where there is a reasonable hope of recovery. Many will argue where there is life there is hope. To a degree that is true, all things are possible with God. However I think there comes a time to say unless God miraculously intervenes it is time for this person to go home. I have seen many that would have been far better off in the presence of the Lord than the state they now exist. This is something everyone needs to talk over with their loved ones an make a living will. In mine I basically say don’t mess with me for I truly believe absent from the body is present with the Lord and frankly I can’t think of a place I would rather be. |
