1 | Should we continue to help addicted son? | Bible general Archive 2 | daybyday | 127825
My son again verberly abused us while on drugs. We've helped him and helped him and thought one more time. It didn't work again. A Christian said to me "if you keep trying to help him God will not." I thought I was being a vessal for God to help son who is 40.

Greetings Daybyday! I have been through the ordeal of trying to help a drug addicted daughter. Unfortunately, until they hit bottom and want help, there is not much you can do. Your best bet is to explain to them your stand on the drugs and then refuse to enable them any longer. Explain that you still love them, but that you will not help them destroy themselves any longer. Also, pray alot! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Thanks for answering Tim, I've done all of this but I was wondering if there is any scripture to so to say back my decision. He's just so abusive when he's on this meth stuff. Thanks

Greetings Daybyday! I don't believe that there is anything explicit, but there are some general principles - especially in Proverbs - dealing with correction. My daughter was addicted to crack! It was a long, hard road, but praise the Lord, she has been clear for almost a year now. But, we had to literally turn her out on the street while she was still a teenager. After many trials, we finally got her into rehab, which helped but did not completely solve her problems. Finally, she came to church with us and God touched her. Her life is better now, but she still needs a lot of prayer! :-) There are no easy answers my friend. All I can say for certain is that if you enable your son by being a buffer for him, he will never hit bottom and seek help. He may need to go to jail for awhile. He may need rehab. He may need to be homeless for awhile. Eventually, through prayer, he will hit bottom and seek help. When that happens, be there for him. Until then, don't help him. I would strongly advise working with a local pastor or counselor to help you through this process. You are in my prayers! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
