Number one way to get motivated ... Pick it up and read. It's a do or don't kind of thing. As for a suggestion on order, this is my opinion based on a history of experience with new Christians: 1) The gospels first, in order, because the gospel is the power unto salvation. There is no greater message in the bible. 2) Follow these with Acts. 3) I would next read the five book of the law (Genesis through Deuteronomy), because there are a lot of things in the gospels that will be easier to understand once you understand the law. 4) I would continue into the histories; that being Joshua through Esther. 5) Read the epistles next. With the background in the bible history, and basic understanding of the law, the epistles of the New Testament will be easier to understand. 6) Read the minor prophets. (Daniel through Malachi). 7) Read Ecclesiastes. 8) Read Song of Solomon. 9) Read the major prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel). 10) With all your basic understandings covered by precedent of law, example of history, explanation of the epistles, and the vision of fulfilled prophecy in the gospels, next read the psalms and the proverbs, which are primarly praise and wisdom, though psalms is also loaded with prophetic voice. 11) Read Job, and see how he does and does not apply his faith and wisdom to testing and temptation, using your understanding of wisdom from the proverbs. 12) Read Revelation absolutely last. It's tempting to read it up front, but you will not get anything out of it whatsoever. It's the first thing most new Christians run to, the one they least understand, and the one that edifies them the least. That's my advice, though anyone else's advice is just as viable. This is simply an arrangement of reading that I find profitable for new Christians that I bring to the Lord. Theo-Minor |
