Is an Internet forum a good place to get Bible questions answered? I ask this because there always seems to be an implicit question concerning the qualification of the people who are volunteering to answer. This forum makes a good effort to get people to base their answers on the Bible. But there seems to be no way to force people to back up what they say wwith scriptural citations. There is only one forum that I know of where there are qualified monitors to ensure that sound answers are given. It is at http://hishows.aimoo.com . There are other sites such as http://bgea.org that offer Questions and Answers but do not have a discussion forum. This forum states clearly that "the Lockman Foundation does not pre-screen postings. Postings are the opinions of others and may or may not represent a commonly held view". Would it not be good to have a group of qualified teachers to screen postings and provide answers? Is it not good to have gifted teachers to answer our questions (I offer Romans 12:7,1 Corinthians 12:29 and Eph 4:11,12 in support of this idea). Is it better to let all opinions be aired as equal? Do you have a Bible verse for that? |

Greetings! It seems to me that after 80 or so postings, you would be willing to share some information about yourself. Please go to "update user info" so that we might know a little more about you. As far as your observation about "authority" . . . Makarios has cited an excellent reference (Acts 17:11) that challenges EACH of us to search the scriptures to see if what is being written is accurate! mommapbs PS: Phil 3:15 |

I did not mean to suggest that it is an impressive personal biography that qualifies a person to give authoritative answers. Nor am I nominating myself for such a position. Nevertheless, at your request, I will look for "update user info" to see if I can provide some useful info. I am not promising here since I have found that revelation of personal information such as education, profession, and experience can garner resentment as easily as it might respect. At hishows.aimoo.com there is a thread for personal testimonies and each member or visitor is encouraged to provide theirs. I support the exhortation that each reader follow the example of the Bereans and to search the scriptures to see if the things said are so (Acts 17:11). Please note, though, that they were double-checking Paul who, as his manner was, "reasoned with them out of the scriptures" (Acts 17:2). It is my observation that many people on many forums post opinions without referring us to any scripture. We may not be able to check to see if these things are so because we have no idea where the ideas came from. On the other hand there are those who suggest there is no scripture on a subject when others know there is. At hishows.aimoo.com the monitors are able to asssist the discussion by following scriptural points with supporting scriptural references. They edit responses to eliminate personal attactks and attempts at intimidation. They do such things in order to ensure that the discussion is not only a chance for anyone to express their opinion but also profitable to anyone who comes by to read. Actually, they earn their position not because of who they are but because of the way they have conducted themselves on the forum. The participants seem to appreciate them because they help to ensure that questions are potentially profitable and that all accepted questions receive authoritative answers. By the way, authoritative answers are defined as those which consider all of Scripture. It is the Bible and not the person who is seen as the authority. The suggestion here is that that authority should be evident on a Bible forum. |

Greetings Aixen7z4, There is also room here, at this StudyBibleForum, that allows one to add their personal testimony, and a thread was started (granted, a very long time ago), that was for that very purpose, although it has not been "added to" in quite some time. Conceivably, you could provide us with your testimony in your User Profile, where it could be accessed just by clicking on your User Name. You have said, "It is my observation that many people on many forums post opinions without referring us to any scripture." That is very true, my friend!! And this has already been done TONIGHT, at this Forum, by a new user named "JacksNewEyes." :-) That is why there are a few of us here, who have taken up the call, to "take up residence here" (so to speak), and counter these fallacies and (so called) "Gradiose Lectures of Opinion" by these folks who really have no idea what they are talking about, and really have no business on a "StudyBibleForum", so that the mass audience at this Forum will not be led astray by such opinions that have absolutely no basis or origin in Scripture. As for the idea of a "Moderator", that idea has already been pitched to the 'powers that be'; but much to the chagrin of yours truly, was abandoned for a more 'progressive' approach regarding this Forum, establishing a different precedent and "makeup" to this particular Forum, as compared to others that the internet offers. I can assure you that the Lockman Foundation recognizes the Holy Bible as the ultimate and final authority, and their wish for this Forum is to reflect that Truth as well (as stated in "About the Forum" to your left). That is why there are a few of us who stick around to make sure that these presenters of "Grandiose Lectures of Opinion" are, let us say, "put precisely in their place". Blessings to you, Makarios |
