in 1 Samuel 15:3 and around those verses, it seems the Lord commands the extermination of a people. i ahve recently found other passages in the bible where God commands differnt people to kill massive amounts of people, why? can anyone explain this?? | ||||||

It is not politically correct these days, but i can sum it up like this - one bad apple spoils the whole barrel. if you don't wipe them all out, whoever is left will be your enemy and continually a thorn. it sounds harsh, but God was just as harsh with His own people. The passage in Joshua is the account of Achan. he disobeyed God, took the spoil for a battle and took it and hid it in his tent. God said take him, his sons, daughters, oxen EVERYTHING he owned and destroy it. God had told the people when they went into the promise land to utterly destroy their enemies. they didn't and we can see the result of that to this very day. | ||||||
