Dear New Creature. Please do not feel sorry. Lets grow through this for Gods Glory. Lets focus on what we have in common! We have the Lord Jesus Christ. May I sugest the division that Jesus refered to was not among Christians. In fact there are several warnings not to cause division in the Body of Christ. lCor.12:25, Rom. 17:17, lCor.1:10, l Cor. 11:18. We are warned in Titus 3:10 to warn a divisive person. We are to be differnt than the unsaved world. We are told to let our love for other christians so show that the worldly will know we are different. I know you will agree that to be in this world, we are divided from the world by our faith in Christ. I personally have suffered because I refuse to go along with what was expected of me from a godless group of neighbors. We are pilgrams, not of this world. However God has blesssed me with more of the worlds tempoary possitions, to use for His Glory. We are not wealthy by any means. But God abundantly has supplied us with more than our needs. This was not always the case. We know what blessed are the poor means, as well. I personally spent one year in a Navy Hospital, being told I would not live. I saw no one who cared, except the Salvation Army who visited and gave me things to make me comfortable, thank God! I had over 50 spinal taps, over 300 IV bottles, My health was changed forever. I am 100 percent disabled. For Gods glory I am what I am. I was a mean unsaved person, back in 1968. I can tell you if Jesus can save me, then Jesus can save and spiritual heal anyone who is willing to repent and make Jesus Lord! I prayed out loud in a bath tub to change me or to let me go. Jesus took me, naked as when I was born, and by a strange coinsidense, as wet, as my physical birth. Jesus saved me! I was born again in the bath tub in 1983! I get shivers all over when I see how Jesus changed a rock hard hearted person to a tender soft hearted child of the King Jesus. Thank You Lord for what I do not deserve! I hope my sharing a part of my life will open you thinking to see how God works with us all not in the same way. Pray for me, and I will pray for you. Let there never be a nother unkind word be said by us to each other. That is my prayer. agape, just me |

Dear justme; It sounds like the Lord has brought you through quite a lot, and has made a lot of changes in your life. I will pray for you as you asked that the Lord will continue to lead you comfort you and guide you. It's hard in a forum like this to get to really know one another, we assume a lot about what the other person must be like by their writtings. I too have been through quite a lot, and it is hard for me to trust people anymore because of some of the disappointments I have had with people whom I thought I could trust. All I can say is people will let us down but Jesus is a Friend that sticks closer than a brother, and he will never leave us or forsake. He said "Lo I am with you always. Love and peace newcreature |

Dear New Creature. I have found those whom the lord has forgiven much, love for Christ can be deep. Not always, but I have seen it. I continue to trust that I may have a chance to grow, and perhaps encourage a growing christian, or that I can experience growth my self. C.S. Lewis said Pain is the megaphone that gets mans attention. We can most deffinatly say 911 was a megaphone! Churches had increased attendance after that, Bible sales were at an all time high! But people are settling back to old ways now, again as usual. I have one friend that has been with me for 33 years. That person I married, my best friend. My partner knows me, almost as well as the Lord. Whats odd is neither has leftme, regardless of what I have done. The realtionship we have with Christ is to be a mirror of Christ' love for us. That is a task and a half. agape, justme |

Apollos "knew only the baptism of John." 'He taught about Jesus accurately in Ephesus.' Twelve men in Ephesus were baptized in "John's baptism." "They were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus" and received holy spirit only afterwards! (Acts 18:24-26; 19:1-7) 1 Peter 3:21 states: 'Baptism saves you.' Its a "search for a good conscience" toward God. (TCNT) Clearly, then, the baptism must be valid and the good conscience maintained. (Matthew 3:1-8; 24:13) Stokeyhk. |

Dear stokeyhk The case you stated is true however that was not always the case through-out Scripture, for clearly in Acts chapter 10 we read of those who received the Holy Spirit before being baptized. I will post the text for you. Ac 10:44 ΒΆ While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. We need to make sure we take each situation mentioned in Scripture, and then come to a proper understanding. |

Its worth noting that the situation in Ephesus was some time after Acts 10. We do need "a proper understanding" of the situation in Acts 10. There's no record that anyone else received holy spirit before they were baptized, not even Jesus! Acts 1:8 says: "You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea [Acts 2:1-8:3] and Samaria [Acts 8:4-40], and to the ends of the earth [Acts 9:1-10:48]." (Matthew 16:19) Cornelius and "all his family were devout and God-fearing." He "prayed to God regularly." His prayers had "been recorded" before God. (Acts 10:4, Weymouth) Why only "recorded"? Because not baptized yet? Peter was being prepared for this new feature in God's purpose. He stayed in Joppa "for some time with a tanner" named Simon. He was taught by means of a vision from God; he said: "Its against our law for a Jew to associate with [an uncircumsized] Gentile or visit him." (Acts 10:28) "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation." Note verses 45 and 48. Yes, "baptized in the name of Jesus Christ." All these events clearly showed that God was now accepting Gentiles. (See Acts 11:1-18; 15:1-29) Stokeyhk. |

You stated "There's no record that anyone else received holy spirit before they were baptized" I would just like to say that I personally received the Holy Spirit first and then became baptized afterwards, just like in Acts chapter 10. Not only that but thousands upon thousands like myself experienced the same order of events in their new found faith. Are we to say that the people in Acts chapter 10, or the many people today who have experienced an Acts chapter 10 conversion, were not truly converted? Through our inward witness we Acts chapter 10 converts know that we now belong to Him just as Romans 8:16 and other such verses say; Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: Maybe your experience differed from others, but don't discount the conversion of others whose experience differs from yours or others. Lets not limit the operations of the Holy Spirit. |

Sorry, I evidently didn't make myself clear. I should have said: "There's no record that anyone else was 'born again' by God's spirit before they were baptized." (Matthew 3:17; Mark 14:36; Romans 8:15; Galatians 4:6) Clearly, many others in the Bible received God's holy spirit before the time of John the Baptist. (Numbers 11:17; 1 Samuel 16:13; Luke 1:15) Proverbs 1:23 and Acts 5:32 are worthy of note: "Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you." 'God gives his holy spirit to them that obey him.' (King James Version) A question for you: What gives evidence that God's holy spirit dwells in a Christian? (2 Timothy 1:14) Stokeyhk. |
