I would agree with shawnguy. Baptism in the Greek does mean to cerimonally wash, but further study of the word shows us how to wash; to dip or emmerse. Take for example the baptism of Jesus (Mark 1:10). “As he came up out of the water.” To come out of the water would indicate being submerged in the water. Or take the Etheopian Enuch in Acts 8:38; “here is water why shouldn’t I be baptized?” If there wasn’t a need to be submerged then why was there a need to find water? I’m sure they had drinking water on them in the desert. Yet the need for more water is apparent. The Jews already practiced baptism before Jesus’ ministry. They were already accustomed on HOW to baptize. The issue for them was WHY to baptize. The same issue many today still fail to see. Kin |
