"Once saved, always saved." This statement is not in the Bible. Nor is it a phrase used by Baptist preachers. The only people who use this phrase are the ones who reject the Bible doctrine of Eternal Security, the opposite of which would be Eternal Insecurity. . . . I realize this is not precisely your question, but your question does bring the old "Once saved..." controversy to mind. . . .While "once saved, always saved" is hotly debated, one thing is for certain: Once lost, salvation is always lost. " . . . logically Heb. 6:4 implies that if salvation were to be lost, it would be impossible for that person to be born again, lose it, and then be born again again. This much is clear: whoever openly and consciously rejects Jesus Christ is unregenerate even if he seemed to have been saved ealier." Whether he had lost his salvation or never had it to begin with, "either way, the result is identical." (note at Heb. 6:4ff, NRSV Harper Study Bible) |

Just my opinion but: Once saved always saved sounds laughable to me. Why worry then? Why stay free from sin if one has been saved? Once lost always lost is equally laughable. Our Lord has an incredible amount of mercy to rain down upon us. Jesus tells us to ask ANYTHING of the Father in His name and it will be granted. Jesus also tells us, where two or more of us can agree to pray on a subject, it will be granted. There is no statement saying "except for..." Interesting subject! Lisa |

we arent free from actually sinning, but we are free to make the choice not to sin. As Christians God wants to make us more and more like Christ every day, and as we grow in our walk with God through reading/studying the bible and in prayer with God...he will convict us of things we are doing wrong in our lives and we are able to change because we love God and because the Holy Spirit empowers us to make these changes. If we dont have the HOly SPirit then we cant make these changes, and if we dont have the Holy Spirit then we are not saved. If we do sin after being saved, we can go to God in prayer at the time we do it or when we realize it later...we pray to God to forgive us so that we are in right relationship with God and in fellowship all the time instead of something hindering us and making us feel like we are hiding from God. *When we accepted Christ as our Savior, we were forgiven for past, present, and future sins. So when we were saved we were forgiven and put in permanent right realtionship with God as far as judgement and punishment...for there is no condemnation in those who are saved (dont remember the verse location but that is the verse). also you have a wrong idea of what "ANYTHING" in prayer to God means....it means that if we ask anything in his name and it is in his will, it will be granted. also you took the last vers out of context too..."two or more gathered" is talking about dicipline in the church/believers. as far as when God is with someone or a group of people Jesus said "I am with you always even to the end of the world." so, when we are saved the HOly SPirit lives in us, and God is with us always, not just when we meet with others. if that was the case...you would need a few people to be with you to pray anytime you want to pray because if GOd isnt there then he cant hear you. but we know, from scripture, that because we are saved we can talk to God through Jesus and in teh Holy SPirit to pray to God. we have access now through Jesus because of what he did for us and who he is "our great High Priest". |
