Greetings Pam! Here are all of the verses in the New Testament which mention 'crowns': 1) 1 Cor. 9:25 - "Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever." 2) Phil. 4:1 - "Therefore, my brothers, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, that is how you should stand firm in the Lord, dear friends!" 3) 1 Thess. 2:19 - "For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you?" 4) 2 Tim. 2:5 - "Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor?s crown unless he competes according to the rules." 5) 2 Tim. 4:8 - "Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day?and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." 6) Heb. 2:7 - "You made him a little lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honor" 7) Heb. 2:9 - "But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone." 8) James 1:12 - "Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him." 9) 1 Peter 5:4 - "And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away." 10) Rev. 2:10 - "Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life." 11) Rev. 3:11 - "I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown." 12) Rev. 4:4 - "Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads." 13) Rev. 4:10 - "the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne, and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:" 14) Rev. 6:2 - "I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest." 15) Rev. 9:7 - "The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces." 16) Rev. 12:1 - "A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head." 17) Rev. 12:3 - "Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads." 18) Rev. 13:1 - "And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. He had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on his horns, and on each head a blasphemous name." 19) Rev. 14:14 - "I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one ??like a son of man? with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand." 20) Rev. 19:12 - "His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself." As you can see from the above verses, the only mention of 'casting' or 'laying' of crowns, is that done by the 24 elder before God's throne in Rev. 4:10. While it may be true that Christians will do this as well, there is no specific mention of it in Scripture. Thus, it would be pure speculation to say that we will or will not do so. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
