1 | Women Preachers? Yes or No? | NT general Archive 1 | journey_me | 93508 | ||
The other day a lady wrote a question regarding the role of women in church. On tv the news compared the election of an openly-gay bishop to a similar scandal involving the appointment of the first female bishop. I was wondering why would a woamn bishop bring about a threat of separation between the episcopalan and anglican church. Then I cam accross 1 Cor 14:34-35 [34]Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law [35] And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. Saith what law? Is this strictly for those who are under the law? Are women under Grace permitted to speak in church? Can somone explain this to me? Are women allowed to be leaders in church or not? The scriptures clearly say no. Why are women required to be silent and seek knowledge from their husbands? I am not trying to be sexist, I am trying to understand how we can justify having women preachers, bishops, and etc if it is against the scriptures. |

journey me: Some would say that Paul was speaking to what was culture at that time. Just as now we no longer require a time of being unclean after child birth, why would a woman who is now educated, be told to be quiet? Could be some believe that all culture at the time of Jesus should be the same today. In such a case women are the mans possesion, and has no rights to vote or much of what we have today. Perhaps some who think in primative cultural terms might consider moving to Turkey, Iraq, where woman are required to cover their face. That is how illogical some would suggest women should be treated. I do not believe this is the teachings of Jesus. I do not consider women in any way whatsoever in the same catogory as sodomites, and to make any such assumption is an insult to any man or woman who calls themselves a Christlike person. Any thoughts you might have? Blessings. justme |
