1 | Jesus and the Holy Spirit ? | NT general Archive 1 | Mike7 | 88041
My question is about the Holy Spirit. I Understand the concept of the Trinity, However what I don't understand was the role if any the Holy Spirit contributed to Christ Ministry before John the Baptist Baptized Jesus Mt 3:16. My questions Specifically are as follow: 1. Did Jesus have the Holy Spirit before he was baptized? Mt 3:16 2. Was he led by the Holy Spirit Before he was Baptized? (Scripture says "Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil." Mt 4:1) 3.If Christ was led by the Holy Spirit was it Jesus' own mortal soul that was led? (Being a believer I understand that the Holy Spirit works as a paraclete a comforter and counselor for my soul which enables me to act out Gods will in my life.) 4. Did Jesus have the Holy Spirit before he was Baptized. If the answer out there is yes, why would Scripture discribe in such detail in both a spirtual and tangibal manner. (As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting upon him. 5. If he did have the Holy Spirit before he was baptized, why is it that he could only perform miracles of turning water into wine Jn 2:1-11 healing Mt 4:23 after the Holy Spirit had ascended on him Mt 3:16. I pray that you can help answer these questions. God Bless you. |

2 | Jesus and the Holy Spirit ? | NT general Archive 1 | Emmaus | 88042
Mike, Short answer: Christ did not have a public ministry before he was baptized by John. In fact his mother seemed to think He was not starting His ministry soon enough after he was baptized if you look at John 2. But, the Holy Spirit has been very busy from the beginning of creation. Wherever the Father is or the Son is, so is the Spirit. It is only that the Spirit is publically revealed gradually in the Gospel by Jesus during His ministry that the Spirit seems not to be involved, but He is. The culmination of Jesus revealing the Spirit comes when Jesus promises to sent Him to the Church, which happened on Pentecost. He is with us still. "And the angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. " Luke 1:35 "When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit; " Matt 1:18 ""Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit; 21: she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." " Matt 2:20 The Nicean Creed says: "By the power of the Holy Spirit He was conceived of the Virgin Mary." "The entire mission of the Son and the Holy Spirit, in the fullness of time, is this: that the Son is the one annointed by the Father's Spirit since his incarnation - Jesus is the Chirst, the Messiah."
