I do not wish to be left out of the current question posting marathon. So here is my question: Can someone please explain the meaning of every word in every verse contained in Genesis 1:1 through Revelation 22:21? Some sample questions are: How could God do what those verses say he did? Are these verses meant to be taken literally or figuratively? How could any verse be true or accurate until and unless an explanation is given for every last syllable? Why didn't God author 20 more volumes to explain the meaning of the Bible? Since some of us walk by sight and not by faith, doesn't God owe us an explanation for his past acts and decisions? Since the Bible doesn't tell us how to bake a cake, repair a motorcycle or fly an airplane, then shouldn't those things be best left alone? After all, anything not in the Bible couldn't possibly be true, according to a line by a strong member of the forum? Why is there air? Who's on first? What family did Cain marry into, if not his own? Explain how we are both under the law and not under the law at the same time. Define justification, sanctification, redemption, salvation, atonement without using a Bible dictionary, which is a hoax perpetrated on us by the experts. How many years do I have to be abandoned on a desert island before I become a world class Bible expert? Shouldn't all the property owned by ever seminary be sold and the proceeds go to provide Bibles for remote tribes and peoples? They could then figure out the plan of salvation for themselves and save us the expense of sending people into all the world to preach the gospel to every creature. The list of questions is limited only by one's imagination. No question is too silly. Post away. --JVH0212 |

Nolan: Thank you for your kind words. But you are in error regarding who's at shortstop. There is near universal agreement among evangelical scholars that the Greek text of the passage to which you refer is better translated as follows: "Who's on first. What's on second. I don't know's on third base." The debate over this issue of whether who's on first or who's on shortstop became so heated that it was the underlying cause of the split between the eastern and western divisions of the church back in 600 A.D. This debate then stirred the clergy on one side or the other to fall into league with those of like beliefs. The outcome was two main organizations: the National league and the American league. Debate among the clergy was forbidden by a document signed by Pope Dimaggio III at St. Abner Doubleday Cathedral. As a later result, dissident Bishop Steinbrenner was tried and sentenced and executed by drowning in Gator Aid. So, Nolan, I hope you see the seriousness of your error when you say Who's at shortstop. For your penance you must sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame 10 times. And you must mean it from your heart. Now go and make no more errors. Hits and runs are preferable every way. |
