Galatians 5:2,3 and Romans 4 exclude biblical permission for circumcision, so how can American parents choose to circumcise their sons even when there is NO medical reason either? | ||||||

Greetings reMARKable! You make two basic points in your post. I would respond to them this way. 1) Scripture never forbids anyone from being circumcised. The New Testament simply makes it clear that circumcision does not save. In fact, Paul had Timothy circumcised. 2) The medical situation is in dispute. Some doctors say there is not medical benefit, while others say there is. Conclusion: It really doesn't matter one way or the other. However, as a parent, I had both of my sons circumcised for two reasons. First, I believe there is some medical benefit to being circumcised. Second, most men in America are circumcised. Therefore, it helps a young man to "look" like everyone else. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Brother, The only justification today is monetary: literally hundreds of millions of dollars every year for the doctors who do the circumcising. Is American culture a good enough reason to inflict pain on our children? Something done wihout good medical or spiritual reason DOES matter. Otherwise, what is the definition of abuse? Shouldn't Christian parents be on the forefront of protecting infants? Just because it has been a part of the American culture, seems a poor justification just:"to look like everyone else." Having done lots of research on the subject, I see no reason to cut normal tissue off to prevent some rare form of cancer that has been reported even among circumcised men. Many doctors are speaking out against the practice. Spiritually speaking, how can it be passed over that the entire chapter of Galatians 5 is talking about circumcision (as well as other practices of the law) condemning a person to having to follow the whole law. verses 2 and 3 both reiterate that to receive circumcision as somehow to be in better standing with God was equivalent to being separated from Christ. Paul did not promote circumcision, even though he circumcised Timothy (a half Jew) for specific ministry reasons. He never promoted it among Gentiles. I appreciate your comments. I can't quite comprehend the mindset of American Christians, since I grew up as an MK in a foreign country where they do not practice this ritual and I have never been able to answer why Americans (even Christians) did. |

Greetings reMARKable! I appreciate your view, but you should also appreciate the view of those who differ with you on this point. Culture is important. Doctors are divided, so it is by no means settled. Personally, I don't see it as a big issue either way. If a parent chooses not to, great! If a parent chooses to, great! Blessings Brother!
