Please discuss what advantages there may be in each: a "literally accurate" translation and an "equivalent" translation which uses a certain amount of paraphrase. Is one more reliable than the other? --Hank | ||||||

Hi Hank ,in regards to your que on different translations. The first literal, would be the one in which you would want to study from, you would find more study helps commentary etc,not to exclude concordenses. The ones with paraphrase are generally just as reliable ,the only differance being that they use a thought by thought vs by vs rendering usally with a bit better understanding.BUT" don't have as many study helps love in Christ RCScroll | ||||||

I agree that for study, the literal would probably be better, but I had heard that every time you start reading the bible again, use a different version. I started out with the King James. Then went to the NIV. What an eye opener. The Amplified, although wordy, gave even more insight. the list goes on. Every time a different version is read, it can show you more and different aspects of what you have read previously. It is like the Holy Spirit keeps opening new windows to the infinite view of God. | ||||||
