Asis Remember by this time the Old Testament was also written in Greek. Jesus probably read it in Greek. It was a poor man's Greek called Koine Greek. Aramaic and Hebrew was still used but the common language was Koine Greek. Today Israel uses Hebrew but that was decision that was made in the 1900's when so many Jews came from all over. They had to decide on a state language and since Hebrew was once their language they went back to it. In some cases words had to be invented as the actual Hebrew word was lost to them. This happened once before when Moses lead the children out of Egypt after their 400 of slavery. Many Hebrew words were forgotten and new ones had to be invented. EdB |

Having been brought up with the almost paranoid fear of being assimilated into the culture in which I lived and losing my Jewishness I wonder if it was different then. | ||||||
